Abstinence question

So I got a positive OPK this AM and was planning on DTD tonight for our boy sway and we were planning a 2 day abstinence. However, my husband just informed me that he released himself last night...UGH! What do I do now? That would make it a 1 day abstinence. I have been swaying my heart out for the past 3 months and drinking all kinds of awful drinks for the past 2 weeks and I am so done! I don't want to try next month due to timing issues with the due date, so if we pass this month, we would have to take 2 months off. But age is a factor as I am 36 and DH is 39 so I don't want to wait too long...Opinions please? Anyone get a boy with 1 day abstinence?

We don't use abstinence, it is fine that your DH released. What we do here is DTD every other day and then on getting first +opk we aim to DTD 3-5 times so for example the night of +opk, the following morning & night & again the following night.

I am swaying blue and this cycle my attempts turned out to be O-2, O-1 & O which I was happy with :) although ideally I would have liked another attempt in there.

Tonight and tommorow morning is perfect :) I would add in tomorrow night and the following night if at all possible.

Would adding tomorrow night push it to 0+12, which sways girl? Thank you for your thoughts!

O+12 isn't really recommended here either. Anyway O+12 was no BDing at all until O+12 so you will be doing more than that.

Make sure you don't just do it once at OPK+ as one attempt is considered to be girl friendly.


I got my boys doing it every other day in my fertile period so I guess DH abstained for 1 day. I wouldn't suggest every other day this cycle for you as you need to get some more attempts in but if you have future cycles it is worth thinking about.

O+12 doesn't sway girl. In fact you cannot conceive from an O+12 attempt. It s more an extra shot in case O is late to be sure you are covered.

One day back to back is ok. YOu need to have 7-10 days of daily release before an attempt to sway pink (and that method doesn't even work very well)

I hope you tried last night, that was perfect. I usually have people DTD the night of pos opk, the next morning, and then again the following night.

Don't worry about hitting O+12 timing, it doesn't work anyway. The only reason why anyone ever did was because it is done with one attempt and one attempt seems to be a very strong pink sway. It may actually help your sway to be in with 3 attempts anyway. For our pink swayers, they got 70-75% pink with one attempt, this fell to 60% with two attempts, and all the way down to 40% pink with three (so that means that even pink swayers doing tons of other things to sway, were still getting 60% boys with three attempts!!)

:agree: exactly!! If you really did have an O+12 attempt remember if the egg had showed it would most likely have been fertilized by the other earlier shots in the meantime! If you O later than you think, that third attempt both raises odds of blue and also covers you for a whole nother day.

What awful drinks are you drinking?
I drank coconut water (yuck!) and pineapple juice every day AF-Ovulation. I hate coconut water but when I mixed it with pineapple juice it wasn't so bad.

Oh good catch Adia - are you doing the baking soda drinks and stuff?? We don't use those much around here.

For me the absolute worst is the V8 with Brewers yeast YIKES I need a straw to get it down fast :D

Brewers with pineapple is fine :)

YOu don't have to do it that way if it's terrible for you - you can always mix and match!

Drinks I tortured myself with the past 2 weeks: COT, Apple Cider Vinegar, Green Tea (this was not too bad). I also did baking soda finger for the past week. I did try BSD but could NOT tolerate that at all and quickly stopped. Am I on the wrong track here?

Oh yes most of those we don't use any more.

COT and BSD are probably not safe (and don't work anyway)

The ACV may actually sway pink by lowering blood sugar and we have stopped using that as well in favor of water with lemon juice in it (the juice of one lemon a day)

Green tea does sway blue :agree: but be sure you are taking 2000 mcg folic or folate a day because it can block folic absorption.

We found that BSF lowered odds of conception by a whole lot and it is very likely that pH theories don't work anyway. http://genderdreaming.com/forum/gend...ph-pickle.html We are getting good results with Preseed.

Oh wow, good to know! There is so much conflicting info out there. I will definitely take your advice into consideration if/when we attempt our sway. I could definitely do without the stress and nastiness of drinking all those drinks!
