Urine odour - sign of gender ?

Okay, totally TMI. Sorry for not being ladylike lol.
For the last month my pee has the smell like I've eaten Asparagus.
I got checked for a UTI, and am all clear.
It also smells like it when the pee is clear (am drinking lots of water as I'm always thirsty)

When I found out my BFP, I assumed it was a heightened sense of smell.
Last night my Hub went in the bathroom straight after me and said "Heck, it smells like Asparagus pee in there" :oops:

I asked my friend who has 2 DS and 2 DD, and she said she had this with both her DS.
My sister who also has DS confirmed it.

Anyone else care to tell me how their pee smelt LOL

And just for fun I did the baking soda fizz yes (I know it's not scientific)
It came up boy....it was the most fizzy test I have ever seen, comparing to the youtube ones.
I really won't mind as this is my first baby, but DH will be devastated if it is another DS for him.

Honestly? I'm thinking probably not as anything you ingest can change the smell/color of urine. Can you think of anything you eat, drink or are taking on a regular basis that it could be?

Nope, nothing I can think of except the Inositol I've been taking.
I read the brands with added choline can make you smell weird. Mine is not with added choline.
Also I stopped taking it for a week now, and it's still doing it.

Do you mean folic acid ?
I've been taking this for 8 months with no effect on the urine odour.
I don't take any prenatals, I guess I better start oops.

Pregnancy itself makes you smell different sometimes. I had really metallic BO with one of my pregnancies for no apparent reason. Same gender as other ones that I did not have it with. Your pee will def. smell stronger just from pregnancy itself.

Boy and girl pregnancies are IDENTICAL at this point of gestation. Nothing is hormonally any different and this is just one of those things people think they see some pattern with but they don't.

I went straight out after Throwaway_Panther said that and bought some.
I got The Garden of Life 'Raw' formula. I was taking their 'Multivitamin for Women' once a day. But have now switched to the prenatal.
It looks quite good (Ithink), but be happy for anyone to have a look and see if they would take anything else.
Am taking all my supplements to the midwife on Thursday.
Still taking inositol, have reduced the grams though.
I've read conflicting things about Inositol and pregnancy, some studies seem to say it helps prevent eearly miscarriages....so I am hopeful that is the case

it's not my favorite but is ok

Inositol is a worry I have in my mind because I feel it's so new and basically unknown. I would wean off it now but I do not have a gob of hard data to say why, it's just a feeling I have.

Which is your fave brand, I am totally open to suggestions

I am an old school simple approach kind of gal. I like any of them that are just 100% of various nutrients that you actually need and not a bunch of random stuff that costs $$ and may not even be safe. Like, I seriously doubt they can cram enough brussel sprout powder into a vitamin capusle that can do any good for you at all. And then additionally things like garlic and ginger and especially the algae, we don't even know that medicinal quantities of those things are safe to eat anyway. I prefer you guys eat a balanced diet and then just top off with a run of the mill basic prenatal to fill any gaps.

I sent the picture to my midwife, and she said half of the stuff is useless (so your instincts are right atomic)
She got my Dr to fill a prescription for some regular prenatals, and also wants me to take 5000mcg of folic acid.
She said that in high risk pregnancies (older mums, previous mc, high BMI), they like women to take extra folic acid, and 800mcg in a prenatal won't cut it.
So I now have the right stuff, and hopefully this will give buba the best start.

:agree: with the extra folic acid, I had a child with a neural tube defect taking just 800. just be sure after the first trimester that you GRADUALLY wean off at that point, don't just stop taking it (you should wean back to the amount in a prenatal once you are out of the first tri because continuing the higher dose may cause or contribute to your child having asthma if you take it in the third tri)

Is that something that is common knowledge with Folic acid?
The midwife did say that 5grams is only until week 12

I just wanted to let you all know that unfortunately I miscarried.

The worst part is that my HCG is still rising :(
I am terrified that it may be an ectopic pregnancy, more blood work and scans on Friday

I don't feel pressured.
Maybe this information will be read by someone in a similar situation one day, and help them with info.
I was thinking of starting a new thread, but not sure where to put it.

Went to the hospital with cramps on one side (left), they scanned and said they saw no sac or anything apart from clots.
Sure enough I was sent home and started bleeding that day.
The next 4 days were like a really bad period, lots of 'stuff' being passed.
My Hcg level was 1000
They asked me to do a HPT test in 7 days, I did, and it was positive, so I went in for another scan and more bloods.
The scan was again normal, one ovary (right) had corpus luteum on it, bloods taken again, but they said not to worry.
They called me the next morning to tell me my level was now 1400, and that I needed to come in instantly for a scan.
Again...nothing on the scan. So they said everything was probably just adjusting, but they took more bloods expecting it to be lower.
This morning they called and said "It's risen again, please come back this evening for a scan. Levels now at 1500"
I've just got back from another scan, and nothing was showing.
I have to have more bloodwork on Monday, they suspect a tubal pregnancy.
I asked if it could be a twin or something ?
The lady said my progesterone is low, and they see nothing, so sadly it is not a viable pregnancy.

The bleeding can definitely be a lost twin but yes I agree the beta rising so slow is not indicative of that.

I will be keeping my FX that this is just a case of the placenta hanging around and your body just trying to hang on too long and not ectopic.

I hope so too, I've stopped taking any prenatals and folic acid, anything that is nourishing....probably won't make a difference.
The nurses say that whatever it is hanging around has still got a blood supply.
Will update on Monday after my next ultrasound and blood test

Hi Ladies

So some news.
I have dropped hog levels to 1290 so thankful for a drop, no matter how small.
The plan now is to have more bloods taken on Wednesday, if they have gone up or stay the same, then they will reassess.
I am hopeful that they will continue to drop

I would have you resume the prenatals and folic for now just in case there is a twin.

Sadly the nurse said my progesterone is so low, that if there was a twin it would not be viable :(
It's hard to hear as I had my hopes up for that too.

They also said to drop any supplements with iron in, to stop blood supply to the ectopic.
I have more tests tomorrow, as cramping has started again

Not great :(
The levels are not dropping much, and today I met with a consultant.
He told me it needs to be managed medically if it has not dropped significantly by Friday.
We discussed the options briefly, and neither sound very nice.

My levels are dropping, they halved in one day :)

I then started bleeding, and I mean it is so heavy that I panicked and went to the hospital.
They gave me some extra thick sanitary towels (I look like I have a package in my jeans lol), and told me it is totally normal.
There is no more pain, apart from periodesque cramps.
Another blood test to On Tuesday, and they are hopeful it will be 0 !

Please if anyone reads this and ever has a similar situation with HCG levels going up, message me.
I know how scary and confusing it can be, and am happy to talk,I hope this thread helps.

Bit of a development, the levels plateaud on Tuesday, and bleeding stopped !
So they asked me to do home tests, it showed pregnant still this morning.
This evening I started another bleed.
Over a month now, but I am confident this is the last bit coming out (I am thinking really positively)
I am going in again on Monday, so fingers crossed it is all done, or they will start methrexate injections

Bodies are all different is all I can figure, and that what takes one woman a few days, can take others many weeks.
I will update everyone once I have my negative test, I am hoping it comes soon.
