help with ovulation. . nothing is adding up

Ladies please help me out, I have been temping using FF for about 4 months now and added opk into the mix last month. For some reason my opk and FF are not adding up. Last month on cd18 I tested at 2pm and did not have a peak ( I am using clearblue digital advanced) but when I tested at 6pm I finally got my peak and the following day (cd19) I had strong ovulation pains around 1pm, so strong in fact I almost had to pull my car over until the pain subsided. FF has my ovulation at cd18 but I am unsure as to how that can be.. I thought peaks show up 12-48 before ovulation? I always temp at 7:30am so how could FF pinpoint my O that day when I didn't even peak until 6pm?

This month on sunday I tested 4 times with no peak at all. My last test was at 9:15pm, I woke up at 2am not able to sleep so I decided to test and finally got my peak.. I had to work in the morning so the earliest we could bd was at 8:30pm and we also bd this morning ( also planning to bd tonight). My question is because FF and my opk say different things how do I know the day I actually ovulate? FF hasn't even detected my O yet!

Here is a picture of my cycle this month does anyone have any input?

** just a note cd 11 I had to wake up an hour and a half earlier than normal so unsure if that caused the drop. I seem to ovulate around cd 18 so cd 11 would have been too early plus I had no cramping or signs of ovulation then

From my personal experience I would go by the OPK. FF has been known to mess up O and temping isn't as reliable as we think. I would go by OPK. And clear blue does 2 most fertile days so it will tell you the day before your actual peak (I know this bc I ripped it apart lol). So I would say you probably O'd 1-3 days AFTER your first LH surge. Hope this helps! I've never temped for this exact reason!

Really? So in your opinion opk is much more reliable? I would love to stop temping so should I just go by opk and disregard the rest? I got my peak at 2am and monday night around 8:30pm we bd I had dh abstain for 3 1/2 days, he drank monster an hour before, used preseed and I elevated my hips for about 20/30 minutes. We also bd this morning around 11am and am planning to bd tonight. Does this seem good?

I was on the ingender diet but switched last month to the HE because it was horrible. I still try to cut my dairy intake but I don't completely avoid it. I still salt everything, eat lots of nuts, have a big bowl of cereal in the morning and try to eat as much as I can especially red meat (have gained 3 1/2 pounds)

I'll be interested to see if you get a spike tomorrow morning or the next day. I used cb dual digi opks as well. If I only tested with fmu then I oed without fail the following day after peak (confirmed by a temp rise) I only ever once oed same day as peak using fmu. If I tested more than once a day and got a peak in the afternoon I would always o 2 days later. For me anyway it super accurate pinpointing day b4 o especially if I only used fmu as directed. Please let us know how it gies over next couple days temp wise and fx for you!!! Oh and ff will not give you crosshairs until it registers at least 3 days of heightened temps.

It did lower a little today but just slightly. It's strange because FF always finds my O but last month it didn't. . I only got a crosshair when I went back and put my peak in and this month I'm not getting anything. I'm wondering if I should just start testing vaginally instead of orally. The last week or so I have been tossing and turning at night. How do I go about testing vaginally? Do I just put it up there everyday at the same time before rising or does it not matter since it's not orally?

IMO OPKs are WAY easier than temping. OPKs will tell you that you will O in the next couple days, whereas with temping you are kind of using your hindsight. Did you get an attempt in?

I tested three times on sunday (the last being around 9ish) and I still had high fertility, I woke up around 2am to go to the bathroom so I decided to test and finally got a peak, unfortunately because of work and a friends picnic for the holiday we didn't bd until 8:30pm ( he abstained for 3 1/2 days, drank monster an hour before and iced his jewels, we used preseed, I made sure to orgasm a few minutes before him and we bd' doggie style. I also elevated my hips for 20 minutes. We bd at 11am yesterday and again around 11pm. Today I tested again and had low fertility. I hope this works! I've gained almost 4 pounds preparing for this!!!

There are a few different possibilities which I'll lay out real quick.

1) your urine was too dilute and you didn't get a positive when you were actually starting your surge and only picked it up at the end. In this case FF would be right and the OPK would be wrong.
2)your temp itself may have been wrong, it's easy to have a wrong temp now and then, you didn't sleep well or whatever In this case OPK would be right and FF wrong. (like you mention you had to get up early)
3)FF can be fooled. It's just a computer algorithm and so sometimes it's wrong.
4)They both could have been wrong and you Oed a completely different day.

It is not unusual though, when you're swaying, to see BIG changes in the day you O. I doubt you Oed that day either but just wanted to be sure you knew that.

There is no need to ice jewels. Heat harms sperm, to be sure, but that doesn't mean that ice miraculoulsy heals them and it certainly doesn't bring them back from the dead!!

You can actually still not have ovulated when it goes to low fertility. It is all about the amount of time the hormone takes to clear your body and that can vary by individual and by month.

RE vag. temping - stil has to be the same time of day before rising.

If you are hating temping then wave it bye-bye!!

For blue we've been having good luck having 3 attempts after pos OPK, so like the night of first peak, then again the next morning (O Day) then again the following night (O Day). :)

Maybe I'll try FF one more month but I'll try vaginally to see what happens. I'm still having cramps but I know it's common after O. I just hope I did ok. I didn't dtd yesterday because I got the low fertility so I assumed it would have been pointless, now I'm thinking I should have tried. For next month should I do another attempt 48 hours after my surge just in case I O a little later?

As for my diet I'm eating no dessert because I LOVE chocolate, I know dark chocolate is ok but I love milk chocolate so I decided to cut it out.. other than that I pretty much eat what I want I just make sure to eat throughout the day and find sometime to eat something in the morning even if it is just a big bowl of cereal (never was a breakfast eater before) I still have dairy but I cut back to just using it in my cereal and cheese for my sandwich. I eat more red meat, salt everything and eat more nuts. So far I have gained almost 4 pounds is that ok? I feel like I'm going a little over board.. I ate a whole medium cheese pizza by myself the other day :( it seems like the more I eat the more I'm hungry.. ugh

I like you guys to keep going with every day attempts or eod until you are 1000% sure you've ovulated. Yes this is to guard against delayed O, because we get these scenarios where blue swayers stop attempting, and then don't O for 2-3 more days after that, so they're basically then in with only one viable attempt in fertile window which has been a strong pink sway for us. Even if it's every other day that's better than stopping.

Haha yes that's what it's like for those of us with lots of boys - we eat a lot but we're hungry a lot too!! Personally i do not believe that limiting dairy or salting everything work for TTC a boy but eating more and eating better caliber foods does.

RE weight gain, I think for most people it's fine to gain as much as 10-15 lbs. but no one wants to gain more than that. ARe you exercising at all??

Honestly the only exercise I'm getting currently is chasing after my one year old. I know I should be doing weights right? So for future reference bd once I see my peak and keep going until I'm sure I ovulated? How wil I know I have o'd for sure? Opk went back to low fertility on Wednesday and ff never picked up on O.. Now I'm nervous that I didn't time things right, we only bd 3 times for those two days and I am STILL cramping so idk if I Od later. I really hope I didn't mess this up.

Now I am so confused and so angry! I got a positive opk monday morning (2pm) and on wendsday tested and got low fertility now I just tested and got peak again. WHAT?!?! I'm so scared I am going to get pregnant now and have another girl because we haven't dtd since Tuesday and who knooows how long I've had this peak for because I didn't test yesterday since I had low fertility wendsday. What is going on! I'm so angry, scared and confused!!

I have no idea what I am doing at this point. I went out to get a non digital opk and it definitely is positive (darker than the control line) I was unsure of what to do so I dtd again dh said he hasn't released since tuesday then come to find out he released earlier today UGHH. Was dtd tonight a good call? We bd' monday night, Tuesday morning and night then again today.

Yes do weights if at all possible, and if you're packing on weight, then you can also do a mod. amount of cardio as well (no more than 45 min. 4 days a week)

I like you guys to have 3-5 attempts in fertile window, the night of pos OPK, again the next morning, then again the same night (so 2x that day) and then if you're not sure you've Oed then keep going with either once a day or once every other day till you're sure you Oed. Either via temping or if you know your body well enough to be sure.

Attempt again right away. If you Oed earlier then it won't hurt anything and if you didn't it's better to be in with attempts, then not!

yes it was the right thing to do, I'd have you DTD again tonight too!!

We will definitely dtd again I just wish I knew what was going on if I o'd late then I got three attempts in DAYS before I even o'd. I took a digital and a test strip at 9am today.. digital went back to negative but the strip was still positive.. I tested again a few minutes ago and got this :tissue: in terms of opk do they usually show positive once the egg has been released? I'm unsure if the lh hormone is there JUST to let your body know to ovulate and then it dissipates so then you might get a negative once ovulation has occured or if the lh surge stays in you even well after ovulation has happened? Does this positive mean the egg might not have been released yet?

I am also attaching my really spotty chart.. I didn't temp for two days because I could have sworn I ovulated. Unfortunately I feel like those missing days would have been key

You can't tell anything from the rate at which OPK go negative. You can have a positive for day(s) after O has occured and you can also have a negative but still have not Oed yet. THE OPK does not measure ovulation. It measures the surge, and while connected they are mutually exclusive from each other.

It does not look like you have ovulated yet. You need three high temps above your coverline to indicate that ovulation has taken place. Going by your positive opks, it looks like ovulation "should" happen 24-48 hours after your first positive opk. However, our body's can gear up to ovulate and delay ovulation until conditions are right.

Are you making your attempts at positive opk? If so, you might want to consider BDing every 4 days to be in an attempt that will catch the egg.

She's swaying BLUE though so she shouldn't have attempts every 4 days as that sways pink!!! :)

OPK control line does look a tad lighter than test still, BUT I would probably have an attempt tonight, the next morning, then following night, then after that continue with every day or every other, because I think you're getting close.

If you want to stick with SHettles, though, wait till it's a true positive though. Control darker or as dark as test.

If I just stop and forgo this month do you think there is a chance I could get pregnant? I think from all of the stress the last few days ( I also don't eat when I stress which I know is a huge no no) I would like my new plan to be to start fresh next month and then do exactly what you tell me to do ( so no shuttles) because honestly I'm so exhausted from trying to figure this out. I know you have an 85% success rate for boys am I right? I'm not messing with odds like that so what do you think? If I stop attempting this month will I be 'staff' in not getting pregnant so I can start your plan next month?

No, we have between 70-80% success for boys. (last year was not as high but we had some issues with compliance) That having been said many of our opposites have been in people whose husbands were smokers so if your husband isn't a smoker you may get better results than average.

My only concern with you stopping this month is that you could possibly still O and get pregnant but if you think you're in the clear, then yes it does make sense esp. if you have not been eating. But I would follow your gut instinct on that!

Dh is not a smoker.. he is also loving enough to do whatever I ask of him so anything in terms of diets or life changes he will make for me <3

I'm thinking about getting the 6 month boy package if I am not pregnant. I sure hope I'm not. If I get the package since I've been doing a little swaying can I start ttc for my next ovulation or sjould I do the whole 6 weeks again?

Even though I think 6 weeks is enough for blue, since I was unhappy with our results in 2015 this is one thing I'm changing now. I think we'll aim for 12 weeks whenever it's possible to do so.

Do you think it would be OK to try and continue our attempt for next month? Dh and I had a hard time conceiving DD and I know he would not want to be skipping months. I am trying my best to eat more and started weights last night. I plan to get my complete package with a rush the day PD decides to arrive. I MIGHT be able to convince him to skip next month but I think that's as far as he'll go without complaining about it
