I don't need help conceiving, I am very fertile but I was wondering if I took pre-conception vitamins would this make me extra fertile? I am worried about having twins. My mother is a twin and so is her father. Would the vitamins increase the chances ?
A friend of mine took conceive well gold and got a boy after having 7 girls.
Not sure if it was a coincidence or not but I was thinking about taking them.
hereditary twins comes down the female line and is for non-identical twins... is this what your mum is? That's caused by multiple ovulation each cycle and I don't know if multivits would affect this.
conception multivitamins in general tend to sway blue very strongly. Partly because of the nutrients, partly because they boost fertility by containing certain supps that the blue swayers also take.
I was taking Pregnacare Conception when I conceived my DS, and haven't met anyone else who took it yet that didn't have a boy.

to me, that implies that your mother was a twin-fluke (because that type of twins is not hereditary), and I don't think you would be at risk of having twins from that... but even if you were prone to double-ovulation, there's still a 75% chance (on average) that each egg won't implant so it could just up your chance of pregnancy overall and still only be a small chance of actually conceiving twins.
If it did boost your egg quality/fertility, I don't think it would increase your chance of twins massively...
I took A, E, and Folic Acid because they help fertility and baby health. I stopped taking A and E with AF because they can cause birth defects during pregnancy if in high doses. I am taking high doses of Folic Acid because I wouldn't mind twins but if you took less then 800 then you should be ok for one healthy baby, but 1600-5000 would increase twinning.
Red Raspberry, Iron, and B's are good before and during pregnancy because they help the mom during and after labor. They do not harm the baby.
pp20 - does folic acid up the chances of twins then? I didn't know that...

No one knows why identical twins happen. There may be a genetic factor to it but then IVF makes identical twins happen a lot more frequently, so it may be that some sort of injury or mistake happens during cell division that causes the egg to split and it may have nothing to do with genes whatsoever. Fraternal twins def. have a genetic predisposition, but at the same time all of us begin to pop out more than one egg at a time...there are plenty of women who have no twins in their family that have twins, and plenty who have that genetic predisposition do not conceive twins. It is a minor thing and not any kind of guarantee. My grandma had fraternal twin boys and my mom, sister, and I had several pregnancies and did not conceive twins, and though I did eventually conceive twins, I was 39 years old at that point. So basically, your Grandpa and Mom were due to two totally different factors going on rather than an overwhelming tendency towards twinning, and neither of those things means you will necessarily have twins. I do want to point out that just by virtue of having 5 kids, you are at increased odds of twins because the more kids you have, the higher the rate of twinning (fraternal).
Personally, I would take the vitamins because not only will they sway blue for you, but I would rather have healthy twins who survived than lose one...it's very common to lose a twin early in pregnancy.
You can definitely overdose on vitamins, just double check to make sure you're not doubling up on anything.
There was a study that seemed to find that, but then there was a second study done (and this was on hundreds of thousands of women and a very well done study) and it turned out that the higher doses of folic just helped both babies to make it. Many pg start out as twins and then one twin is lost, and the folic cut down on the odds of that happening. It did not cause more twins to be conceived in the first place.Quote:

A on the advice of a doctor. 99.99% of women who are TTC should NOT take Vitamin A and like she mentioned, it can cause birth defects. Atomic - when I booked in with the midwife this week she said they now recommend taking vitamin D throughout your pregnancy, which is new since I had DS3. Any idea why this would be?
Vit D is a bit of a wonder vitamin these days and so everyone is recommending it. I do think it's a great idea to take it throughout pg. It also may help prevent preeclampsia (altho that's a bit of a sketchy link).
My experience with Vit. D is that my son who was born in early May (so he was on board through the fall and winter months) had the absolute worst baby teeth that you have ever seen in your life, they started to disintegrate immediately after they came in, and had to have numerous crowns put on his baby teeth. (My older son had no cavities until he was 17 years old so it wasn't a matter of care or diet, because they were cared for and eating the same things). The children's dentistry specialist told me that he sees that all the time with kids born in springtime and he thought it was because of lack of Vit. D and sunshine when the teeth were forming, it makes the teeth not mineralize properly. So I took Vit. D with both DS 3 and 4 pregnancies and their baby teeth are perfectly normal just like my first son's teeth were.
