Hi there, Dr H...advice on girl 'sway' before IVF

Hi there Dr H,

Thanks for all your fab advice on here. I've seen nuggets thread and wondered if you had any advice re supps for trying to increase numbers of pink sperm prior to our IVF/PGD cycle in April 2012? Not sure if it's something you've covered already?

At the moment, I am taking conception formula (vitabiotics), vit D, Coenzyme q10 and royal jelly (heard it's good for egg quality) and hubbie taking male equivalent conception formula, vit D, coenzyme Q10. We are both taking fish oils too.

Is there anything you feel we can do to increase the odds of getting more girl embryos? i'm scared of only getting 1 or 2, or even none!!! This is probably my only attempt :(

Hi There


I would increase for your partner lots of Vitamin C and take additional Folic Acid. Fish Oil and Vitamin E is great! Pycnogenol is good and Silica (Liquid form).

The other thing for you is Alpha Lipioc Acid (ALA) it is excellent for your for egg quality and Vitamin E. Bee Pollen is great too!

We are just investigating a male Enzyme Treatment, may change by default the sperm ratio as we have seen lately more female embryos!!!!

Hi Dr H... Can you tell me a little more about the male enzyme treatment? Thanks!

The male enzyme treatment is an oral treatment with specific enzymes and Amino acids.

I am just waiting permission to publish.

But, I can say for those wanting girls take Olive leaf Extract (liquid form) one teaspoon a day as well as and two teaspoons for male partner.

Does this apply to those of us going HT? Can I ask why the female partner would need to take as it is obviously the male that determines gender and only female embies will be put back?

Wow, am intrigued about this olive leaf. Why is it good for those wanting girls? Will this be useful to those swaying for a girl naturally? Any advice is v much appreciated xx

I'm guessing that it is because I have already seen you suggest Vitamin C and the OL liquid extract is made directly from fresh olive leaves recently gained international attention when it was shown to have an antioxidant capacity almost double green tea extract and 400% higher than vitamin C. I think what you guys were trying to do is just improve fertility in general and you found that people taking high volumes of vitamin C made more girls in IVF?? Just a guess!!

She has seen the results with IVF so I'd say, yes, very much so! I have no idea what the actually study was though.

I will add that both DH and I have taken olive leaf extract for years simply for it's immune boosting effects (it's super beneficial during cold/flu season!!). However, we have two little boys so I'm assuming the OLE just helps with fertility/egg quality!!

Can you take pill form of olive leaf? How many mg?

Just reading this thread but I STRONGLY urge that people do not try and sway and go HT at the same time. Taking folic acid and Vit. C will probably not hurt anything but you want maximum fertility in both man and wife when going HT and screwing around with supps, abstain, etc. will only diminish the number of viable embryos you get at the end of the process and do NOTHING to alter gender ratio. The mechanisms that alter gender ratio take place after ejaculation and have to do with the enviro of the female reproductive tract and the overall health and numbers of sperm themselves - how long they take to capacitate, etc. You bypass ALL these things when you go IVF and put some already-capacitated sperm in with an egg. So you trade something that doesn't even sway for potentially reducing your number of viable embryos because honestly, we DON'T know how all these supps really affect sperm and most of the pink swaying tactics are not great for sperm anyway.

Also, please check with your OWN RE to see if they are ok with you taking any supps. Some REs do not want you to take a lot of supps anyway.

The only sure way to change the gender ratio of embryos when going HT is via Microsort.

DON'T sway and go HT.

My research indicates that nutrients in women sway blue, not pink.

If you want to give the olive leaf a try, personally, I would give it only to DH and not take it myself.

what is 2 tsp of the olive leaf ? of what concentration of olive leaf? If you take a pill form how many mg?
