Concieving after miscarriage

Hi Atomic. I know you know my history and I wanted to know your thoughts on TTC after a few losses. Im seeing my OB again this week and will discuss with her if further testing is needed, I think I will push for some. I know my second loss was due to an umbillical cord accident at 16 weeks they said random. and This was an early loss. After each of my losses I waited 5 months and 6 months before trying again. I want so bad with this one to try again after my first cycle. I even have minutes I am so annoyed I say I want to try right when my bleeding stops :( The doctor at the hospital said that was okay after first period and i wanted to know your opinion. I just feel I waited so long after each loss maybe if I just do something different and conceive right from the start it may be better. But at the same time I am worried that is my body just telling me to stop, just rest. but for how long I dont know, I thought I was doing my body a favor waiting 6 months and it didnt work. We are both healthy otherwise and have no known medical issues.

I just dont want to wait, I want to have this baby and my husband agreed to trying once more right away.
Is there any information to say it may be better? or is okay right after the first period, especially after several losses?
Im still not positive what we will do since I will perhaps get some testing and see how that comes along in the next few weeks, but in the event I just want to go ahead and try anyway Id like to know, maybe there is something to concieving right away?

Im wondering in the aspect of swaying too now, since i have been off the diet for the last weeks if getting pregnant right away will ruin chances for my girl. Ive worked so hard over the past year with both pregnancies and had a long time to get back on the diet after my losses. and now i gained 3 lb straight away (But I lost over 15 lb since my last loss 6 months ago. I went lower than my pre-pregnancy weight. I was still healthy eating this past bit being pregnant, just alot more meat and snacking alot as I was always hungry.
I read briefly something about it swaying pink but I dont know if that means the weeks straight after miscarriage even before your first period returns. If after my first period returns is that no longer in the "pink friendly" stage and does that mean I should give time to the diet?

Yes it is fine for you to start trying right away with this loss. It was early enough so you dont even really need to wait for the first period (unless your doctor knows something I don't about the nature of the loss.) Early and uncomplicatedlosses are typically ok to start trying right away.

we think losses sway pink even for a month or two afterwards. We can't give specifics as it is likely something that varies by the person.

I would come off prenatals (wean off, though, don't stop cold turkey) and then pick it up with diet and exercise when you feel up to it. For all we know it may take a few weeks for you to ovulate anyway, plus the loss itself will be taxing, so it's ok to start sooner if you prefer. No need to wait the full 12 weeks on the diet.

This is great to know, Thank you. I came from my OBs a few hours ago, it seems that no, there is nothing else she knows that we do not. The pregnancy just didnt progress. There wasnt even a sac in the hospital ultrasound. She thinks my levels didnt even go much higher than my 778 hcg before it ended. My OB did ask me to wait one period cycle before trying minimum. I asked her is there a reason specific to my case that I have to wait, because I feel I just want to try sooner and she said No, she is just telling me to do so because having a pregnancy before the first period increases the chance of another miscarriage, and she doesnt want it to happen to me again she said.

Do you find such to be true? I know in the end it is my decision, but to be honest I like to pair the opinions of my doctor and yourself Atomic and make an educated decision based on what I think is best for us...I do know that doctors have always said for dating purposes so Im not sure if this miscarriage thing is just to encourage one to wait the cycle...Not to say its a lie but Im not sure just how accurate it is.
Although She does as well, think my pregnancies just had bad luck, and may not be related but gave me alot of requisitions for testing for my husband and I to do, if we feel we want too. She said some results (Like the choromosonal ones) may take months and couples tend to fall pregnant before the results but they like to have it done...I will probably do them anyways.

That early on I don't find any reason to wait a cycle with an uncomplicated loss. after 8-10 weeks or if there was heavy bleeding, infection, or a D and C I'll have people wait. There are lots of ways people lose pregnancies, and some of them definitely warrant a waiting period. Sometimes docs then extrapolate that to everyone but earlier losses, most people try right away.

Much of what doctors recommend are simply what they were taught in med school and not anything they've observed personally. And not very long ago, sadly, women who lost a pregnancy were treated like they were mentally ill and doctors would forbid them to try for several months, even years not due to any medical reason but because of "psychology" most of which has been subsequently revealed to be nonsense. Doctors even just a couple decades ago thought women were just this side of crazy and needed to be protected from themselves, so doctors thought that since women were hysterical children (yes I'm being sarcastic, LOL) they couldn't be allowed to do things like try to have a baby soon after a loss, and stuff. This attitude is getting better, but it's still there underlying a lot of medical advice they give even when it doesn't make much sense really.

So if you think that you'll worry a lot due to that remark then skip a month. Otherwise I see no medical reason for an uncomplicated 5 week loss to wait a month before trying.

Atomic, I just :heart: you! I am so thankful to have found you and this site. I do agree with you. Ive looked into it a little and then read your reply, I do agree with what you have said. I will probably just try this month...I feel at this point there is nothing i havnt been through and nothing I cant take. It just has to work for me this time, I hope :( and its worth the heartache to try, at least for me it is.

I really wish I had easier access to methylfolate over here. I want to go back to it and Im having a hard time getting my hands on them I cant believe it! so i ordered 3 bottles at $80 from Ebay because I wanted larger 100 tab bottles but that will still only last 2 1/2 months for 3 bottles. which is so expensive for us to have to buy every other month (at taking 4 pills for 4 mg a day) and I get scared having to depend on ordering online in case of delay in shipping (It says takes about 2 weeks to arrive) I do have amazon two day shipping, but the bottle sizes will only last me 15 days each!

...Im taking folic acid right now and scared to start the folate. The problem lies as well is if i take folate and when I get pregnant, and want to add a prenatal with the 1 mg of folic and drop 1 pill from my folate dose (To still equal out 4 mg) Im only finding prenatals with folic...
Is it okay to take both folic and folate, if I have no medical reason to not be taking folic?
I was thinking since i ordered them already I can just do, 3 mg folate 1 mg folic...that way they will last a bit longer as well as when it comes time to wean off for a few weeks I can wean off to just the 1 mg folic in the prenatal eventually?

If its not advisable, im not sure what to do...I wish I could just buy 10 bottles or something at once and be done with the issues. I really cant :( I scoured the city the pregnancy before and only found Folate with b12 if you recall. Not at option taking 4 mg dose...

Yes it's fine to take folic acid and folate as long as you don't have a proven reason to need the folate. I think I recall we had you on the folate due to your first loss, but then you had testing done and you did not have the mutation, correct?? So it's totally fine for you to take both of them (or even just pure folic as long as you can find the kind without the b12). It's only the people who can't tolerate folic acid that need to stay away from it entirely. :heart:

Many, many women have a burning need to try right away. Follow your heart and I strongly, strongly suspect that your body has its ways...if it can't get and stay pregnant, it won't let you get pregnant, if you see what I'm saying. It will take longer for your cycle to resume, or you'll try and the egg won't be fertilized. The body is a lot smarter than people give it credit for and if you want to try now there's nothing that I see that should prevent it. :)

I see, that makes sense! I actually have never had the MTHFR testing done, so I dont know if I carry the mutation but I never looked into it because I have never had much of any indication of symptom for me to do the testing, and with my first two pregnancies I always took folic and it worked fine so I never thought I need too and just assumed I dont. That being said, my OB did order some tests. I will be trying this month but as well will go and take the test, its just been hard around the holiday and break with the kids off to have to go down to the hospital outpatient lab.
These are the tests she ordered for me after I discusssed with her some of the things that we talked about here.

Under "other tests not listed" on the rec she wrote:
Anti thrombin III, Protein C , Protein S, Activated protein c resistance ratio, Anti-cardiolipin Ab, Lupus Anticoagulant, Prothrombin G mutation, Homocystein.

As well as under Coagulation, she marked tests "PTT, FIB, CLT"

Under Endocrine:
Prolactin, and YSH

Most commonly orddered tests: CBC includes Diff. and INR (prothrombin time)

Im not sure if any of these has to do with the MTHFR mutation? I came across that with my google search of Homocysteine, so perhaps that?
I do hope she ordered the correct tests, but I will do them anyways and hope this next pregnancy works out. Thank you for your encouraging words Atomic.

Yes the homocysteine has to do with the MTHFR mutation https://medlineplus.gov/lab-tests/mthfr-mutation-test/ If your homocysteine level is normal it's unlikely you have the mutation and plus elevated homocysteine can be indicative of other things so it's quite a helpful test to have done. :) She's also got you tested for things that are IMO much more concerning than the MTHFR mutation, like autoimmune diseases.

Really...concerning in what ways? Are the autoimmune diseases not something generally tested for in these circumstances for pregnancy? Im wondering as I don’t think she has any indication to think I would have something like that, so the fact that it is concerning to you, concerns me :( She never really explained what she’s testing for, as I am the one who asked for testing, she just handed these off to me... If she has any reason to think such thing I would assume she would say...did have the testing done yesterday...awaiting results now. I just assumed these are tests that she would normally give, given my circumstances

Autoimmune diseases are quite common and for some reason doctors are often reluctant to test for them. We've had several instances where they did not test for autoimmune diseases only to turn out that there was an AI issue. Several of the autoimmune diseases can cause pregnancy loss so I think it's extremely important for docs to test for autoimmune disease in any cases of recurrent pregnancy loss. Most autoimmune diseases are silent for many many years before becoming symptomatic. In fact it's very often the case, particularly in younger women that their disease is discovered when they lose a pregnancy or have a child with a health issue. I have an autoimmune disease and my blood tests indicated I'd had it for quite a long time, certainly during my last 3 pregnancies. Just luckily for me that it didn't cause any harm to my kiddos.

This is not a cause for additional concern. Please do not now have more concern than you already have. This is a good test to have, it will help rule out a lot of potentially harmful things (and even if you do have one or more than one as sadly they go in packs, they can treat it) . I'm simply glad that they have tested you for the AI diseases as not everyone gets that test ordered for them.

The amount of women with an AI disease I know with problems holding a pregnancy or even getting pregnant is unreal. I've only become aware of it since I myself was diagnosed this year. I pushed for more tests after my mc last summer as something just didn't feel right and I have chronic anaemia which can be an underlying symptom of a thyroid condition. I really had to push for the testing though!! I don't understand why testing is not more readily offered! It's just crazy to me. Two ladies I have told my story to have since gotten tested, diagnosed, medicated and are 10 and 13 weeks pregnant respectively. This is after years of secondary infertility for one lady and an absolute nightmare of mc after mc for the other lady!

:agree: It took me from January to the the middle of October in what I perceived to be a full on health crisis before they tested me and even then it was an after thought as if they were just trying to shut me up. And looking back on it even before it all blew up, I had inexplicable and weird symptoms for 20 years before that (heart palpitations, thirst, chronic anemia, years of horrible heartburn, and a rare inflammation of my optic nerve that is indicative of AI diseases) and was NEVER once tested for autoimmune disease. I have no idea why they don't test women regularly! So frustrating. So it is always good news when someone gets a test without having to fight for it. :heart:
