Ovulation cramps but no positive OPK yet

I’m getting the usual dull pain I get around ovulation time but I did 2 OPKs today; one in the morning with FMU and another one in the afternoon when the dull cramps started and both were negative (well not negative but just a flashing smiley). I don’t know whether we should throw in an attempt tonight or wait for a positive OPK so as to not throw off our 3 attempts in definite fertile window, as I’m 3 days away from “expected” ovulation. We haven’t BD for about a week but DH has been releasing every 2-3 days (he last did 2 days ago). Do I trust my body or do I trust an OPK? :shrug:

If timing is important to you, wait. If you don't care about timing, go for it.

Swaying can very much change O pain patterns though. So it may just be you're getting more intense O pains a little sooner. I often have O pains from CD 3 all the way past ovulation some months.

Thanks for your reply atomic, yeah I’d like to factor in a little timing too but also want to get in 3 attempts. So I’ll just wait until the positive OPK. My ovulation pains have definitely become more intense since swaying. Last month I had intense cramps from ovulation all the way through to AF. My AF also started in the morning at the beginning of this cycle, for the first time for as long as I can remember!

Thank you!! Got my positive OPK this morning so we’ll be BD’ing tonight, tomorrow morning and tomorrow night. And then we’ll try for every day or eod after for a week.
We’re so excited! :)
I’m just nervous because even though DH has been releasing every few days, we haven’t BD’d at all before today’s positive OPK. We haven’t dtd since last week. Is there a chance we could miss ovulation this month by waiting until night positive OPK? Should we bd sooner?

Not usually - it's far more likely to O longer after the positive than sooner, as long as you've been using the OPK regularly. The people who O immediately after the pos OPK are often people who aren't testing very often.

I tested the night before my positive and it was still flashing then so I think we’re good! We got in our 3 attempts and it all went smoothly :) we will continue though in case of delayed O.

Hi Atomic! Just an update - I’m 10 DPO and got a very faint BFP!!! I’m trying not to get my hopes up because it was reallllyyyy faint but I’ll be testing again tomorrow to make sure it’s in fact correct :) just wondering though if I am actually pg, which supps should I begin weaning?
Currently taking the following daily:
Multi
Vitamin D (1000 IU)
Fish oil (1000mg every 2nd day)
Folate 500mg (1000mg all up between multi plus additional)
Iron 25mg (for my low iron but that was a few months ago not sure if it’s still low)
Probiotic

Thank you so much for all your help and support! I didn’t get pg the first month when we were ttc my DD (it took 5 cycles) so this is a huge shock for us and we’re still holding back on excitement until we get some darker lines!!

I would just continue with all those. Have the doc check your iron and see if you need to continue.

Okay I’ll have my dr check my iron when I get my blood test to confirm pregnancy.

Can I stop the probiotics? Only because they’re expensive lol and the less I can take daily the better. And do I have to slowly wean off them or can I just cold turkey stop them?

And also should I be switching out the fish oil for pregnancy DHA? Or does it not matter?

With the probiotics, while you don't need to wean off them, since you have some left, I'd just keep them around and take them now and then as kind of a maintenance dose. They're good for you.

You can absolutely switch out the fish oil for pregnancy DHA but do NOT up the dose (some of the pregnancy DHA are freaky high doses). If the pregnancy DHA is a lower dose then just make the switch gradually.

Okay no problem I’ll just take them occasionally and I’m going to continue with the fish oil I’m currently taking every 2nd day because I have way too many left lol.

Bloodwork all came back fine and confirmed pregnancy (YAY!)
but my dr said my iron is still low. It’s at 19 and he said it should be at 30. I’ve been taking iron supplements for a couple months now and have been eating leafy greens and red meat every day without fail since starting HE, so for 9 weeks now. I Don’t understand how it could still be low. Could it be because everyday I take all my daily supplements and follow it up with a smoothie and a handful of almonds? Because I read that calcium blocks iron absorption and just found out almonds are high in calcium. I’m worried I may have ruined my blue sway :( if my iron was low at conception does this sway pink?

Iron is quite hard to absorb. Just follow your doctor's recommendations on getting it up where it should be. Early pregnancy is a time you need a lot of iron.

I doubt the smoothie with almonds is in any way preventing you from absorbing iron, but if you like, you can have it at a different time of day. Mostly when they talk about calcium absorbing iron they mean high doses of calcium supplements.

I always have low iron, and I have four boys. Iron seems to be one of those things that doesn't strongly affect a sway, unlike some of the other nutrients. You've been doing GREAT on your diet so keep up the good work by eating right in pregnancy and then follow your doc's guidelines about the best way to get your iron up.

Thank you so much for your reassurance Atomic! I don’t take additional calcium but there is 120mg in my multi that I take at the same time as I take the iron tablet. I’m going to start taking the iron before bed, away from all the other supps I’m taking.

Regarding the diet, when is it safe to start easing up on it a little? Although I must admit I have been ravenous this past week so I’m instinctively eating HE anyway.

As long as you're not crash dieting and eating when you're hungry that is fine. The issue we have with blue swayers is that many of them are pathologically afraid of gaining weight, and so the second they see a BFP they begin dieting, some of them planning to gain NO wegiht or even lose weight during pregnancy. Just treat this like any other pregnancy and eat what you would normally eat (or even more if you were eating way more when swaying.)
