Did we sway for a girl without knowing?

Hi everyone
I joined this forum last week after realising we could see a nub on my nt scan pic, I have posted it in the ultrasound gender prediction section and everyone says girl so far!! I have 7 children from a previous marriage 4 girls and 3 boys. My dp and I were ttc for a year before I got my bfp in december at 13dpo. That cycle we had actually agreed to have a break but I carried on charting as my cycles are all over the place and looking back I can see that we bd 3 days before and 12 hours after O we definitely did missionary position and I had the big O beforehand(dp likes routine :rofl:). I don't add salt to anything at all in my diet and was eating a lot of chocolate and carbs. I never really got any egg white cervical mucous and I ovulated from the left ovary (scan at 8 weeks showed big corpus luteum on the left side) I don't have a fallopian tube on the left after a previous ectopic so the egg must have had to travel across to the right to be fertilised.
Does any of this sound like a girl sway attempt? My dp is convinced it's a girl and I dreamt a while ago of our baby girl so would be absolutely over the moon if it is but feeling a bit worried that I am now setting myself up to be hurt. 14 days until the gender scan :nails:

Me too the more I think about it the more I think I will feel disappointed if it is a boy. Not said that to anyone else as obviously they would think I was being horrible.

i swayed pink without meaning to. missionary, 5 days before 0 and a 0+12. no red meat, lots of cranberry as i had a uti, i also had a head cold so i was taking sudifed, and vit c. i had lost some weight. bbt was super high. i was taking birth control pills ( when i rememebred). another irish twin. i know i o'd from my left side. hot shower and tighty whities for dh. despite all thats its a boy! you can imagine my shock. i knew it was dd8. hopefully you hear pink, but everyone told me i was having a girl with that minisway i did.

I hope you get your desires! Of note though, it is completely impossible for an egg to cross to the other tube so this babe must have come from the R. However, it is totally possible to O more than once so you may have also O'd on the left and for a CL to still be visible from the previous month.

NeedAGirl, a woman can ovulate from either side and concieve either gender. This is true and proven science. There is a lady I know at work who only has the right ovary/tube remaining (her left ruptured and had to be removed) and she has boy and two girls. There are many more examples etc, a member here was taking clomid and was monitored and knew she had O'ed both pregancies from her right and had two girls.

Auroara since I lost my left tube in 2004 I have conceived :DD: followed by :DS: then :DD: then :DS: all from the right side confirmed at early scans.

Needagirl- I have noticed a pattern each time I have conceived of a longer cycle where my body gears up to ov around cd 10 but doesn't and actual ov is around cd 17-24. I always assumed the first try was the left and then the right took over. With this pregnancy I had a long cycle and assumed the same thing had happened but it was the tec who said at my scan that ov had come from the left and that the egg must have migrated. I was also told the same by my consultant after my operation so I don't know :think:

You could also have released eggs on both sides and the U/S tech missed the other corpus luteum.

Oh I am not in anyway refuting that you can O on either side or both sides in the same cycle - it happens all the time or that a certain side determines gender - that's just silly - I am just saying it is impossible for an egg to come out of one ovary and cross over to the other tube. That is not possible.

I asked Carole about this and she said it could actually happen - personally, I wouldn't bet on it and think it's much more likely that there was a second CL on the other ovary that the tech missed - but there is an ever-so-distant chance that it could occur. The human body is AMAZING!

Wow. That is bizarre. How does an egg migrate from one ovary to another without traveling through a Fallopian tube?? Does it somehow jump out of the ovary, into your body, sneak around the bladder, and back into the other ovary?? Makes no sense, but I guess anything is possible!!

I was trying to envision how, and I came up with a notion that maybe without a Fallopian tube on the one side, it could be possible for the uterus to sort of depress and shift a bit, and that this could possibly pull the ovary closer to the other tube. So rather than having to make its way past ALL the organs, the egg might not have to go quite so far? I"m not entirely sure and would still place my money on double ovulation and the tech having missed the second CL but I do know that some crazy shenanigans can happen sometimes...

On Mystery Diagnosis I saw two separate episodes involving endometriosis, one woman ended up with the endo growing in her hip, and the other woman had it in her upper back and lungs!! The endometrial cells had traveled up and out of the uterus, thru the Fallopian tubes and managed to implant in parts of the body very far removed from the reproductive organs. Some peopel have even gotten endometriosis in the eye and brain! (then again, some MEN have gotten endometriosis too so no one is really quite 100% sure if the cells are really coming from the uterus or if something else is going on here.)

I have read that the tubes can shift in order to catch the egg but who knows. I was definitely told by my consultant after my op that it was possible for the egg to release on the tubeless side and still be caught by the remaining tube.

I agree that it is possible but just not that likely and just that I think a missed CL is a lot MORE likely, KWIM?? When they talk about the tube shifting, that's just a little, not like across your abdomen or anything. Still, it could be that it occured just as your tech said which is awesome! Either way, baby is on the way! :)

It is irrelevant anyway, we just love to talk about the amazing workings of the human body and how miraculous it all it! :) Thanks for posting because I learned something new and I love that!

I love talking about the human body and how amazing it is. As you say doesn't matter how it happened I am just grateful that it did after trying for 12 months we were beginning to think there might be a problem! Only 6 days now until we find out :DD: or :DS:

hey I know this is an old thread but i was interested in reading because i only have one tube but im not sure which one was removed when i had a ruptured twin ectopic in 2003 one baby grew in my womb and one in my tube. i mc and then 8 weeks later my tube ruptured the worts pain ever!! felt like i had been shot.... i had major internal bleeding and nearly died!! anyway the pain was all down my right side from shoulder to hips it happend after intercorse. so im guessing my right tube ruptured would anyone know this? also with regardes to ovulating from both sides i feel it in my right but never my left so i wish i know which tube i still had? i did see a woman on a programme a few years ago that couldnt get pregnant despit many ivf treatments she had both tubes removed due to PID when she was younger, then as if by magic she fell pregnant!! without ivf!! her doc told her it was soooooo rear but her egg had followed an imaginary tube and been fertilised and implated in her womb!! now that is a mirical!!

It makes sense that it would be your right tube but internal pain can be very weird and be felt in places that you wouldn't always expect (such as, people having heart attacks can have pain in their wrist!).

Don't worry that you only feel pain on the one side, you can feel pain in either/both ovary every month regardless of where you ovulate from. In fact several of us have had worse pains in the ovary that didn't ovulate than the one that did, because ovulation can kind of relieve some of the swelling (eggs develop in both ovaries and only the biggest one-two is/are released.)

PS - I'm so sorry this happened to you but thank you for sharing your experience!!!

A lot of people feel some mild pain or cramping for weeks during early pg, and then get extremely worried they have an ectopic, but most of the time in a medical emergency, you will KNOW you have a dire situation going on - if you're wondering for days about some mild pain and googling stuff that is freaking you out, the odds are you are not experiencing an ectopic. If you're having severe and horrible pain, GET TO AN EMERGENCY ROOM even if you don't think you're pregnant. Of course there are exceptions where mild pain led to severe pain, my point is that 9 times out of 10 mild pain turns out to be nothing and severe pain should always be checked.

your welcome! its strange because i had a mc and i had to go to the doc for blood tests a few weeks later and they even told me my hcg levels were going up when they should be going down!! they kept asking me if i was in any pain i felt fine they then sent me to the hospital for an internal scan and the doc had a good look and he couldnt see anything in my tubes but did seem baffled because of my hcg levels i was not even worried at the time and just went on with life as you do then that same eve id been for a scan my OH and i had intercourse and we had to stop because i got very hot and sweaty and felt light headed and i could feel pain in my side. within a matter of seconds i couldnt move the pain was so bad and then it dawned on me.....ectopic!!!! OH called for an ambulance i had the paperwork with me that i had recived earlier from the hospital so they the ambulance crew new what it might be the journey was awfull i felt evey tiny bump!! i was left for ages though untill they finally decided to operate buy this time my tummy looked huge from the internal bleeding!! a scan cant always rule out NO ectopic especiallly if your HCG levels are going up!!! always get a second opinion! i consider myself very lucky to be here because i dont think the docs were in much of a rush to operatE on me and i had to have a very large blood transfution after!

i think if a doc suspects an ectopic espcially when hcg levels are on the high side or incresing daily like mine were, they should perform a laparoscapy i think its called where they go inside your belly button with a camera and take a proper look!! im very thankfull to be here!

Happened to me!! Well, I went in to the hospital as had some bleeding early in pregnancy, they did an ultrasound and when they seen a baby in my womb they ruled ectopic pregnancy and said it was all fine. Then I was at home one Friday night and got the worst pain ever..ended up collapsing and being taken to hospital, no one could work out what was wrong with me (I was really sick, in agony and blood pressure was really low) until they took me into surgery and found the ectopic. I lost the use of the tube it was in-it annoys me to think that if they had looked more closely at the tubes and not ruled out ectopic I might still have the use of that tube.

This is an interesting thread...and I just wanted to add my own experience in regards to getting pregnant with only one ovary and one tube (even on "opposite" sides!). In the anatomy books, you often see a picture of a neat, pear-shaped uterus with two squiggly tubes leading to fimbria that envelope the ovaries to the right and the left. However, in reality, this arrangement can change significantly depending on a number of factors, such as scarring in the pelvis from endometriosis or PAD, stool in the large intestines "smooshing" the pelvic anatomy close together, or a full bladder shoving the bladder posteriorly (towards the tailbone). This can actually result in the ovaries being pulled close together, even touching (think of a slingshot being pulled backwards, with the two prongs being drawn to each other as the tension increases in the rubber bands). I used to see this quite often while performing ultrasounds of women, particularly those with history of adhesions (scar tissue). I remember being totally confused one time at the sight of two ovaries on one side of the pelvis...I had to go get my supervising physician and ask her what the heck was going on (the patient had stage IV endometriosis with a very distorted pelvic anatomy). In any case, you can see how it would be possible to have one ovary and one fallopian tube, even on opposite sides, to allow a pregnancy to occur. It's really quite amazing what our bodies can do...it's incredible! :)
