The Gender Guarantee- IVF with PGD
The only way to guarantee the gender of your next baby is via elective IVF with PGD(Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis).
Generally, the process goes like this-
- The woman undergoes pretesting to determine ovarian reserve, chances of success and protocol
- The woman is given stimulation medication to force her ovaries to produce multiple eggs
- The woman undergoes an Egg Retrieval procedure in which the eggs are removed from the ovaries
- The eggs are cleaned and fertilized with the sperm sample from the man
- A fertilized egg becomes an embryo and after 3 days of growth, the embryo is biopsied and a single cell is removed from each embryo*
- The cell is analyzed with the patient's choice of testing method(Natera, CGH, PCR, FISH, etc)
- 5 days after Egg Retrieval, the Egg Transfer happens and the desired gender is transferred back into the woman's uterus.
- Pregnancy beta is typically 10 days after transfer to determine if the procedure worked or not.
*Day 5 biopsy is available now and this is said to be where the industry is headed for better results with PGD. If a Day 5 biopsy is used, all 24 chromosomes are evaluated and transfer can happen 6 days after egg retrieval. This is now the main method of PGD in the USA.
