Ttc past 40 and after a 2 tri loss

Hello ladies! I’m new here and have some questions.

First off, I just bought the dream membership this morning and followed the link. But I’m not seeing a change to my account?

I’m not sure where I should exactly be posting this as I fit the 40 plus, the having trouble with conceiving, and ttc after a loss 🤷*♀️

Back ground. I’m 42 and had a 16 week loss this past November. I was so excited to have my sweet boy. He was the easiest baby I ever got pregnant with. And I was beyond shock to find out his little heart had stopped beating a few days before my 16 week check up 😞

I have a 22 month old that took three plus years to conceive. My first son that is almost 19 took 2.5 yrs. a couple children we easier though... I also had a very early loss in March of 15 and a CP last month

I have 5 boys plus my lost boy and only two girls. While I would sway pink, at this point Im not sure if I should? I think my priority is getting and staying pregnant.

After we lost the baby I started all kids of supplements and now I’m rethinking this plan. I’m taking Fish oil, prenatals, extra Folate, extra calcium with D, Vitamin C. And Ubiquinol.

I’ve had light periods all my life and have often wondered if I had lining issues. SO I started Red raspberry Lead tea twice. The first time I had an early loss and last month I drank It A-O and had a cp...

I’m wondering if there is a plan I can purchase that helps with TTC in general?

Any thoughts? Or can someone point me in the right direction? I really don’t want to end on such a horrible loss and would love to straighten out my supplements to get back on track.

No. At the time my heart wasn’t in it. We have seven other children with no issues though.

I started the Ubiquinol in case it the loss had to do with egg quality. I’ve take 3 a day for 6 months.

I have an appointment next week with my OB and she’ll offer Clomid. I’ve tried it twice before and I did ovulate, but I’ve never gotten pregnant on it. Same with Femara.

I’m leaning towards more supplements or different supplements. A change in diet...IDK. I feel at a loss on what to do next.

Without testing your loss, it's definitely hard to figure out what might have happened. I can tell you from the recurrent loss side of things, though, that second trimester losses are often less chromosomal issues (and if they are chromosomal losses, they are often the chromosome issues that can be viable, like Down Syndrome). There are always exceptions to the rule though, of course!

Did you have early scans with that pregnancy? They should have been looking at your lining and cervix measurement to make sure those were good, and lining was unlikely to have affected little one's heartbeat stopping.

I'm definitely thinking of you. It very well could have been a chromosome issue that happened to make it that far, and going on supplements for egg health could only help. A lot of the other things I'm used to considering for losses at that stage (clotting factors, for one) seem unlikely as you've had so many other successful pregnancies before.

I can’t figure why it takes me so long to get pregnant. Sometimes 2-3 yrs and sometimes not.

I’d kinda like to sway girl... but eveething I’ve been taking I believe sways boy. Fish oil, probiotic ect...

Do you have PCOS or any tendencies that direction? Do you have thyroid issues (if you aren't sure, I suggest having a checkup) Did you recently go off any supplements or herbs suddenly.

I would not worry about your light periods or drinking RRLT. People worry constantly about lining but it's really not such a thing as people think it is. I have super light periods too and always have.

Ubiquinol is fine. How much fish oil, C, folate?

If you want a plan, just get the regular TTC a girl plan and then stress in the questionnaire that it's mostly for fertility and I'll make the plan accordingly.

I don't want you on Clomid. Femara only. Once you're over 40 Clomid can raise your FSH sky high and this will drastically lower your egg quality. Femara does not have this effect and I"d very much prefer to see you on that.

I do want you to change your diet but please run any supps you are thinking about by me first. The tendency is to throw supplements at the problem (which is likely not even a problem that needs to be fixed, was probably just an unfortunate set of circumstances that led to your loss) and often people start taking so many supplements they actually cause themselves harm and make it take longer to conceive.

I was taking Royal Jelly this month for a week and half or so and then stopped. I think this messed up my O this month.

2400 Folate- this include the Prenatals
Ubiquinol 300 mg total
Fish oil- 2855 TOTAL- 455 in the prenatals and and two extra 1200mg of Nature Made
Iron- 65 daily as I don’t get much and im usually a little low.
Calcium Chew with added 1000 of D. This makes 2000 D daily and lots of Calcium.

Last week I cut out- extra zinc, magnesium, calcium and 1000 extra D, and 1000 of C. Should I add these back in?

It’s great to see you had a baby at my age! So did my sister. Gives me hope. I just can’t end on my sweet boys loss.

YES... I have mild PCOS traits, I did even as a very thin teen. I lost 25 lbs before conceiving my 16 week lost. But have gained it back over the last 6 months. It’s like my hormones went crazy.

NO thyroid issues. I’m checked often since it runs in my family. I see the OB next week so I’ll ask if I was checked last yr. I’m sure I was.

Oh wow, I don't have a thyroid as well (though mine was removed as a kid!).

If you saw a HB at 8 weeks though, that helps figure out the cause of the loss more. Some autoimmune conditions cam develop the older we get as well.

Definitely follow atomic's advice, she is a pro with helping older moms get pregnant with healthy babies!

I’m definitely putting Atomic’s words into action. I’ve already started cutting back carbs, but I’m going to stick to her diet that she linked me. I started today but I’m going to the grocery store tomorrow to get supplies.

I honestly think that without really intending to, they just don't care that much if we get pregnant or not. It's not a deliberate thing, but I think that for most of us if we have kids already they're like "eh whatevs". Femara is also newer and has only really been being widely used for fertility (it's actually not new, it's just new for fertility) the last couple years so some docs are more reticent to use it.

Stay well away from the RJBP - it really does mess up your ovulation and can even stop it. Plus it has nothing beneficial to add anyway. All it is, is a form of concentrated B vitamins, a little protein, and a little fat which you are certainly getting elsewhere. It can also cause or prime you to have potentially fatal allergic reactions to insect stings!

Too much fish oil. Way, way, way too much. Harmful amount that could actually kill you and potentially harm a pregnancy. Please wean back (do not drop cold turkey, wean back by gradually spacing doses furhter and further out) just to the amount in the Smarty Pants, that is all you need.

I would have you drop the probiotic untill you're pregnant. We have found probiotics to be super blue friendly and there's nothing in them that will help you get/stay pregnant (and you already have some living in your intestines since you've taken these, anyway)

continue Ubiquinol, wean off gradually at BFP

Iron/calcium are fine if you want to take them (while nutrients may sway blue, I understand wanting to continue with things like this and the prenatals, totally at your discretion) Do not add back in 1000 mg C under any circumstance, that amount of C has been used to induce miscarriage and it's best to just stick with amount in Prenatal.

LOL I feel you about the weight gain - I'm in the same boat, weight just suddenly appears for no apparent reason unless I'm careful all day every day! It's the 40's for ya. :/

I’m taking all your advice to heart. I’ll gradually cut back the fish oil. I won’t add back the C. I’m going to continue the prenatals and extra Folate. And maybe I’ll take the iron every other day...

Can I quite the probiotic cold turkey?

How much calcium should I be taking? The Smarty Pants prenatals don’t have calcium added that I can see. They do have 1000iu of D though. The calcium chew I’ve been taking has 500mg of calcium and another 1000iu.

The Royal jelly- I’m quite positive that just taking it for a couple weeks has prolonged O. I should have Od yesterday at CD 17 and there’s no O in sight 😡 Any idea how long till this corrects its self?

ALSO- Black Ice Tea with no sugar. Is this ok? I ❤️ It.

And lastly 😊 anything I can take to improve ewcm?

:agree: iron every other day is a-ok by me, be sure you're drinking your tea at a different time of day as it can mess with iron absorption

Yes probiotics are fine to quit cold turkey since your body doesn't get "used" to them like it does with prenatals.

Calcium is at your discretion; since you're already taking it I'd just continue what you're doing or reduce that to every other day if you're worried about the nutrients.

It just depends on how strongly your body has reacted to the RJ. May be soon, may take a few weeks. I HATE that stuff and wish it never had a reputation as helping with fertility because 9 out of 10 people I see take it hve that exact same reaction!

I do think tea sways blue but it's no magic bullet.

The things people take to improve EWCM do tend to sway blue. You can try grapefruit juice or lemon water, or if you prefer you could to guaifenesin starting 5 days before you expect O and continuing on 3 days after.

I’m definitely in camp hate Royal Jelly! Everything I read, and I read a ton, said how amazing it is for ttc 😡😡

Oh I know...it drives me looney how many things are made out to be these miracle cures and then people show up and they haven't had a period for 3 months and somebody is telling them "but it takes up to 6 months to work"...or 9...or 12...or 18 LOL (only it is not even a little funny when people are going a year and a half with no period!)

I finally O’d on cd 27. Maybe the weaning off things delayed it 🤷*♀️

Anyway I’m 11 dpo and has a stark whit bfn today. So I guess I’m onto yet another month. I’m very down but trying to perk up. Ttc sucks.

I’m going to constraint on diet better this time. I think that’s all I can do. Unless I want to add in Femara on my own.

I am hoping that the RJ has worked itself out and you are going to have a more normal cycle this month! FXFXFX and blue dust headed your way!!

UPDATE- I’m still ttc and have yet another early loss at almost 6 weeks. I’m on cd6 of the loss and the bleeding stopped a couple days ago. SO... I’m going to keep trying.

I have a question... can I get thoughts on RRLT??I still want to sway my odds toward PINK, BUT a sticky baby is more important. In the past with my first 2 early losses/CPs I was drinking RRLT. After nearly a couple yrs of ttc I got pregnant the month I started it, but it ended in a loss. I blamed the tea as it was my first loss. I conceived 8 months later with my 2.5 yr old son without tea. Then later lost a baby boy a 16 weeks. After months if trying after kissing baby boy, I drank the tea again and again got pregnant immediately, but had another cp. At that point I was definitely blaming the tea. But here I am now 6 months later after another loss and I did NOT drink any RRLT this time ...

I’m having mixed feeling on weather I should try the tea this month. On one hand I’m 42 and did get pregnant with the tea twice. On the other hand I’ve gotten pregnant without it too, although I have taken yrs to get a bfp in the past.

I'm ok with you guys trying it for pink. I do think that it may sway a bit blue, but at some point we may NEED to sway a bit blue just in order to conceive.

I do not think RRLT causes chemicals but I DO like you guys to be sensible with it, 2 c a day in the FP max, 1 cup a day in the LP max (fine to do 1 cup in FB, one every other day in LP, or even less) and then once you get BFP, rather than dropping it all of a sudden, continue spacing doses further and further out till down to one cup per week, then drop it.

I’m at the point where I’m ready to jump into blue sway in order to achieve a sticky pregnancy �� My heart still breaks for my sweet baby boy I lost last yr �� My last two living children are 4 yrs and 4 months apart. I tried every month in between. I had the first early loss in the middle of that.

No, I don't really think it does anything. I have seen a few people conceive while taking it, but just as you say we were on the Hail Mary program and doing everything in our power to conceive at that stage.

I'm not a huge fan of the Garden of Life although their prenatal is better than some of their other stuff. I distrust all those added ingredients and the megadose b6 has really messed up people's cycles (not unlike the RJBP we talked about before.)

Why so much calcium?? For the sway?? Taking that kind of calcium over 40 may contribute to cardiovascular disease and one study seemed to find a link between elevated calcium levels and miscarriages so I would actually have you wean off that now. Again, not convinced it's doing anything harmful, more out of concern for future heart health than the miscarriage risk, but it may be something to change, at any rate.

I have been coming down on no more than 2000 mcg folate any more. Unless you have a history of NTD I would keep it to no more than 2000. There are too many studies coming in that seem to indicate some people are retaining too much folate and I don't want to have you guys taking any more than need be. Do this only thru the first trimester and then be sure to wean off by spacing doses further and further out till down to the amount in prenatal only.

I would suggest going onto a lower carb diet like the Zone or South Beach. NOT very low carb or keto (please please! no!!) but just getting more protein and healthy fat, and then getting your carbs from healthier sources.

ETA***my garden of life is the organic prenatal fwiw***

I was taking Smart Pants prenatals. Do you think those are preferable? I still have them and prefer them. I switched as it didn’t have much DHA. I wanted to take the Nordic prenatal but I was afraid of taking it with the Smarty pants incase that was too much fish oil and DHA.... so I switched to the Garden of life.

I will cut back on the Calcium, I’m not a milk drinker so that’s why so much. And I’ll cut back to 2000 on the Folate. I was at 2400.

I like the Smarty Pants one better.

You can also try taking the Nordic every other day if you worry you're gettiing too much.

Same with the calcium - it's also possibe to take them every other or every 2 days and your body can store calcium and D.


2000/2400 is pretty close to the same range, I would not worry aabout that. Some people take 5000 or whatever and I'd just rather you guys stick with 2000 ish unless you've got a history of NTD. :)

Hello again Atomic. Its been a long time since I’ve been here. I finally got pregnant again after almost 1.5 yrs of trying and lost baby AGAIN in the 2nd trimester. Last time was at 16 weeks and this time 15 weeks.This was two weeks ago.

This time we did testing and baby was a normal baby girl �� Im devastated. I had blood drawn for recurrent miscarriage and everything so far is normal.

This all said.... I’m going to try again. DH are both older. I’m 44 and he’s 46.

- DH has had sperm issues in the past. He is currently taking Smarty Pants for men but I would like to switch him to Centrum 50+

- He takes my Nordic prenatal fish oil

-1000 of C to help with sperm

-200 of Ubiquinol

Is there anything else he should add in for sperm?

While I’m heart broken I lost baby girl, I don’t think I should focus on swaying as much as becoming pregnant.

Any thoughts for me? It’s greatly appreciated.

Oh no I'm so sorry to hear that Lizzie. Did they have any reason?? I find that when a loss is late there is often something related to thyroid issues or a cord accident (which is generally random), so if you haven't had your thyroid tested you may want to look into that. I'm concerned that there have been two and I want to be sure they've thoroughly checked into everything.

yes, I'd rather see him on the Centrum over 50. The Smarty Pants has a couple ingredients in it I don't think are beneficial for him.

I would not give him that additional Vit. C. It's no biggie if he wants to continue (it's not hurting anything) but I don't think it's necessary.

But what are YOU taking?

I agree, you should not be swaying now really but I do have some ways that will both help you conceive and help you have a healthy pregnancy. Can you tell me everything you were doing for your sway when you conceived and while ou were trying the last time?

I took all of this with this last baby girl EXCEPT the C. I also took baby asprin this time as recommended by OB. I’m heavy more than ever at 160 and 5’ tall. I wasn’t dieting as I’d almost given up. I need to loose 30-35 lbs.

With my first 2nd tri loss In 2017 I had just lost 25 lbs by cutting carbs and I just got done BFing my now almost 4 yr old. No baby aspirin that time. That was the quickest i have ever Horton pregnant. That baby was a boy.

I started two weeks ago after the loss cutting carbs again, I still eat wheat toast a few days a week. I’ve added in eggs a few days a week and while milk or full fat yogurt 1 a day for fertility .

Anything else for me? I’m mainly concerned with getting a BFP and not so worried about a girl anymore. Any new info on RRLT?

Can I get your thoughts on L-carnintine and L- arginine for DHs sperm health? Probiotics?

We also bed quite often. We’re going to try for ever other day soon. Is that to much at our age?

Oh and would a little cinnamon after meals help me since I’m older and trying to loose 30 lbs?

Ok if it's already been checked then it probably doesn't need to be again, as long as it's been within the past year or so.

No, I don't think they should have checked progesterone. In a normal pregnancy your body will make enough progesterone. And if the pregnancy is not developing normally, then your body will lower progesterone to end it. We now know that progesterone dropping is just the body's way of ending a pregnancy that isn't working out, and studies have shown that using supplemental progesterone does not help anyone get or stay pregnant, it just extends the amount of time it takes before there's a miscarriage. So even if they had checked it, they would have found it was falling naturally most likely, and they could not have done anything about that.

I listed what I take just a couple post down. The one below my progesterone question....

That's because a lot of people have heard of it and think it worked for them, but really it was just that the pregnancy was a healthy one. Doctors still prescribe it to people so they can feel they've done everything, but the science is indicating it doesn't really work.

Carnitine and arginine sway blue. I don't think they are magical pregnancy pills either, so I would hesitate for you to add in something that may sway blue and probably won't help you conceive, but your call to make on that.

I would prefer the kind without all the extra stuff in them, but they are not bad at all compared to some other ones and the folate is better than folic acid, so it's fine to continue rather than switching. It also has a lot of inositol in it, much more than I tend to recommend.

I would wean off the additional Vitamin C.

Why did your OB recommend baby aspirin?? Do you have a clotting disorder?? Recent studies have shown that in women without clotting disorders, aspirin may actually cause miscarriage https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/a...scarriage.html I would personally recommend weaning off that unless you have a specific diagnosis of a health issue that requires aspirin. The idea that aspirin should be used as a preventative is falling by the wayside.

Yes, I am fine with you trying cinnamon (but ONLY if you have come off the aspirin, as combined they really thin the blood). Ceylon cinnamon only, 1/2 teaspoon from AF-O, 1/4 teaspoon from O-AF. This is a small amount, please do not take more than this though.

If you come off the Smarty Pants, let's also add in some myoinositol. 1000 mg AF-O, and then 500 mg or 1000 every other day from O-AF. This is only if you stop the Smarty Pants which has a lot of myo in it.

Some grain foods are fine, we just don't want you getting massive amounts of them.

BD every other day is ok if hubby can keep up with it, but I tend to prefer you guys having sex every 4 days (in the 72 hour pattern, so M/Th/Su/W like that) and then adding in another attempt at positive OPK whenever that falls (or the day before you expect to ovulate) while continuing the e4d pattern. The reason for this is that every other day sex can easily end up being only one viable attempt in the fertile window. You end up with either attempts O-1, O-3, and O-5 (and the O-5 attempt won't count, the O-3 is pretty unlikely to end in conception, and only the O-1 is a good attempt) or O, O-2, O-4, O-6 (only the O-2 attempt would be for sure viable, because the O Day attempt might be too late to do any good). With the e4d plus one method you will always be in with at least 2 attempts in the fertile window, and possibly 3 if your fertile window stays open a while.

I don't see any benefit for you to using probiotics. They won't do anything to help you conceive and would only sway blue anyway

Keep working on the diet and weight loss - I think that will really help your egg quality. I'd add in exercise, even if it's just moderate like 30 min. a day, 3-5 days a week.

I would give it a try with making these changes before adding in RRLT. I am not at all convinced it does anything for helping people get and stay pregnant and I worry it may actually have negative effects we don't know about yet.

Asprin- I stopped taking after this loss. It’s a big new thing for moms over 40 to take it regardless of clotting disorders. Almost ever mom over 40 on babycent had their OB tell them to take it. Mine included.... she said it helps with high blood pressure, which I don’t have... and pre E...
I didn’t take It with the first 16 week loss, but did with the 2nd. I stopped while in the hospital, so it’s been two weeks. I will not take it with next pregnancy.

Myo inositol- so you have a preferred brand? I will switch from smarty pants to Centrum womans? I’ll add the Myo inositol.

I will add in the exercise and keep with the diet. I think Ive lost 1.5 lbs this week.

Would a cup of Decaf coffee hurt egg quality?

What is the dose on the Nordic? I'm inclined to have you be very minimal about it since you're also on the cinnamon.

Because he's already getting plenty in the multivitamin and 1000 mg is a lot of Vitamin C. I don't think it would have negative effects, but the truth is, megadose vitamins are not adequately studied and since it's not necessary it just seems like something that could be potentially gotten rid of.

The question about the Factor V is beyond my pay grade so I'd be sure to ask the doc about that.

Nordic dosage is total of 830 mg of omega 3. This is made up of EPA 205mg, DHA 480mg and other omega 3s 145mg

I was thinking DH take the full amount for sperm health and I tAke half that, just incase it helps with egg quality?
