Swaying/Diet with an IUD?

Hi all! Wondering if anyone has swayed with diet, etc, either successfully, or unsuccessfully, with an IUD in? As in, doing the diet and other sway tactics while still having the IUD, and not getting it taken out until shortly before your first attempt - ish? (Apologies if this has been asked already -- I searched for "IUD" in the search options and nothing comes up! I think maybe it's too short for a search term?)

I've had my IUD (Mirena) in since December 2017. I have an appt with a new OB office to get it out on April 30th. We are going to sway girl, so I'm going to start the LE diet + exercise on May 1st, with plans to start actively TTC with my first cycle in August. I wanted to get my IUD out right when I started the diet/exercise, so that I could give my body some time to get back to normal cycles, in case it decides to go wonky. I haven't had AF in over 2 years at this point, so I'm a little nervous about coming off of it. I did have regular cycles before getting the IUD, though.

Anyway... I'm afraid I might not be able to get the IUD out now as planned! :( My IUD shifted upwards after it was placed, so the strings do not hang out of my cervix at a normal length. It is in place no problem, just short strings. So, I MIGHT need to go to the OR to have it removed, if they are unable to grasp the strings in the office to take it out. The problem is, with the COVID-19 pandemic, all elective/non medically necessary procedures are currently not allowed, at least here in MA. I'm not sure if IUD removal is considered elective or not, especially since I'm not at the 5 year limit yet, only 2.5 years.

If the OB is unable to remove it in the office, and I'm unable to schedule an OR removal for the foreseeable future... is it even worth it to go ahead starting the diet and exercise on May 1st? Does anyone have any insight? Will having the Mirena in completely undo any swaying effects of the LE diet & exercise? I'm trying really hard not to be bummed out by this... :(

Yes absolutely I've had lots of people do that (or while on birth control pills, or an implant) I like it because we have some evidence that seems to indicate catching the first egg or two after having hormonal birth control may sway pink.

I would go right on ahead and start the diet when you planned to and it won't make any difference at all.

I will say anyone on hormonal BC needs to avoid any hormonal supplements, particularly saw palmetto, as they can render the BC less effective (or totally ineffective in the case of the SP!)

I’m going to be crossing all of my fingers and toes that the OB can remove it in the office as planned... I would much rather avoid an OR trip with conscious sedation if at all possible!

But either way I will go ahead and start the LE diet on May 1st as planned. If she can’t get it out in the office, hopefully we can get to the OR sooner rather than later, but I’m glad to know it won’t affect my sway even if it’s in for longer than I planned. [emoji4]

And no hormonal supplements here! I am only going to do LE Diet + exercise and one attempt. That is already a total change from my lifestyle and # of attempts when my boys were conceived anyway! (I’m sure you have to add that in anyway for everyone who’s reading though [emoji4]) Thanks again for your help!

Update: she got it out!! [emoji1316][emoji322] I’m so happy and relieved! This was the last thing I had to “worry” about, before starting to sway, and now it’s done. [emoji4]

TMI warning: the strings were not visible and were up inside my cervix... so she had to use a biopsy brush to dig them out and grab them. That was SUPER COMFORTABLE... not [emoji23] but still way, way more preferable than an OR trip!

I was going to start the LE diet tomorrow, but I decided to postpone until Saturday instead. I’m working a full day tomorrow and would rather have less stress on my first few days while trying to figure it out, than my first day on the diet be while working. PLUS my favorite bakery did a pop up take out shop with pickup tomorrow [emoji23] so I’m definitely going to take advantage of some bakery goodies while I can!!
