British mother spent ‘over £20,000' to have baby girl

A British mother has revealed that she spent over £20,000 on gender selection treatment in order to have a baby girl.

The mother of two boys became pregnant with a daughter after visiting a Californian clinic where the process is legal.

Her doctor, Daniel Potter, said he treated up to 10 UK women a month in his clinic to help them "create the family of their dreams".

Gender selection is illegal in the UK without good medical reason.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 5 live's Victoria Derbyshire programme on 21 July 2014.
