Do you get your doctor to do a 12 week ultrasound? At my clinic and most I know only do a scan at 18-20 weeks, that is all that is covered. I see sooo many people with 12 week scans and just wonder why they had them. I really want to be able to do the skull and nub theory on mine but I won't be able to have one done...poo poo. haha

Most women elect for a NT scan which is done late first trimester. I bet if you ask your ob you can get one.

We have one now that's mandatory at 12 weeks to date the baby then the 18-20 week scan. No others unless there is concern about baby's size which they normally do 34-36 weeks x

nuchal translucency screening
It is the standard of care where I live and everyone gets one. They do bloodwork and a scan.

Where I live they don't do them either so I am going to go to an elective ultrasound facility and pay to have it done.

It's not unnecessary. It is a scan to check for abnormalities. It's for health reasons.

sorry, it's not unnecessary for those lucky enough to get them but they are deemed unnecessary here where I live. I think it would be better to have a 12 week scan over a 20 week.
