I am not pregnant, but hoping to be, and am wondering if because I will be 42 in December, would I need to take or use some form of progesterone at BFP? Or is it not a foregone conclusion that levels might be low-ish just because I am 41? Or what other things might there be that I haven't considered to help boost my chances of a pregnancy sticking at my age? TIA, everyone.

No, you do not need progesterone unless it's medically indicated. I had fine results with pregnancies at 39 and 41 and never used it.
