Hi everyone,
I'm currently doing a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the University of Roehampton, Surrey, UK.
As my thesis topic I am going to be interviewing women who have experienced gender disappointment. This topic is hugely under-researched amongst White, Western women (British, America, Australian etc).
It is well documented amongst Asian and African women where there is an obvious cultural bias towards boys.
As a result, I would love to hear from you if you are currently in the UK and struggling with this issue.
I would come to any location that worked for you, and chat to you for about an hour to 90 minutes about your experience. Obviously, your confidentiality would be protected and all data would be anonymous.
If you are interested in talking, and therefore potentially helping counsellors and psychologists understand more about how this affects women, I'd love to hear from you. Reply to this post, or email me on groenewf@roehampton.ac.uk.
Many thanks, and all the best, Fiona

I would just like to mention that the last time someone came around saying they were a grad student doing research, while they were a grad student, she was also a reporter for Slate Magazine in disguise, so everyone please proceed with caution here and investigate to be sure this is a legitimate student project before speaking with this person.
No offense meant, just don't want anyone to get burned.!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

Hi there,
Thanks for your replies - I can only imagine that you must get journalists trolling these sites which must be very intrusive.
I'm not sure how to assure you that I am nothing more than a doctoral student in Counselling Psychology, other than to suggest that if you have concerns, you email my Research Supervisor, Dr Rosemary Rizq, on R.Rizq@roehampton.ac.uk. If you google her you will see that she is a highly respected academic with a lot of publications to her name. If you look on the university website you will also see her credentials.
I am doing this research because I believe that it is a massively misunderstood area, and that there are a lot of women (and men!) out there who are struggling with this issue. I am planning on doing qualitative research, which means I only need 8 women to talk about their experience, and the analysis I will do will be very transparent and aim to hear the voices of women rather than publishing statistics.
Please do email me on groenewf@roehampton.ac.uk (my Uni email) or email Rosie if you have concerns.
Kind regards, Fiona Groenewald

To be fair .ac.uk at the end of an email address would suggest a legitimate student. It's the standard way that uni's in the UK give all students their own personalised legit email address.

Thank you - that is true, the ac.uk is the standard university or school domain ending.
