    Another benefit of using aspirin!

It can help in the prevention of pre-eclampsia! My first was born at 28 weeks gestation when my BP hit 210/190, and I spent weeks in the ICU myself. My second was a surprise pregnancy, so no swaying, but I did take aspirin after finding out I was pregnant and pre-e didn't repeat. That could be due to a number of factors (same father, plus there's only about a 20% chance of it repeating in general), but I think this is such an awesome benefit of a girl sway!

In addition, if anyone is interested, I found that CVS carries an aspirin that is only aspirin and starch and is totally uncoated. It's a 325 mg tablet, so I'm cutting it into quarters and taking it with food (the enteric lining or chewability of most low-dose aspirins is to prevent ulcers, so I asked the pharmacist and she said taking it with food would be fine). It's nice to know that there's no additives like artificial colors, etc. - but that could just be me being a hippie .

Here's a link to an article on the study: http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/0...ef=health&_r=0

I would consult with a doctor before taking aspirin in pregnancy. I generally have people wean off aspirin at BFP. there are many people who can benefit from aspirin during pregnancy but it's not ok for everyone so I would not want anyone taking this without talking to their doctor. Thanks for sharing info!!

I had ds1 at 30 weeks for the exact same reason & have taken aspirin throughout my pregnancies with ds2&3. I believe that the study shows it is only beneficial in those women who suffered severe pre-term PET before 32 weeks. For those who had it later it's not as effective if at all. The benefits only outweigh the risks for a very small percentage of women with a history of PET. It's been wonderful for me but the advice to avoid it generally during pregnancy is very sound & for good reason. Glad it worked for you though

I'm taking it during this pregnancy, but decided to do so only after consulting with two perinatologists about the benefits vs risks. I had a previous late loss that might have been caused by placental problems (though I had a CVS that pregnancy, which might also have caused the loss) and have low PAPP-A with this current pregnancy. (Low PAPP-A is associated with placental problems, including greater risk of IUGR, placental abruption, preterm labor, and miscarriage/stillbirth. It's also associated with an increased risk of pre-eclampsia.)

I did not take it while TTC--I tried it some time ago and found that I seemed to have trouble conceiving while on it (I've otherwise always gotten pregnant really easily) and was suffering from excess bruising.

Some docs/perinatologists will recommend it to all pregnant women with certain higher-risk conditions; mine advised me to start it at 10 weeks. Taken earlier on, it can increase the likelihood of SCH (pools of blood forming beneath the placenta), as well as bleeding in general (ie, if you were prone to spotting in early pg, you might find that you had lots more of it than you might have without the aspirin). Some studies have shown an increased risk of miscarriage while taking aspirin, though I don't think all of them have (that is, the data on this is inconclusive).

Other docs/perinatologists will say that the greatest benefit to taking aspirin in pregnancy comes early on, when the blood vessels between the uterus and placenta are just beginning to form (that is, aspirin aids in their development).
Because there are different opinions about aspirin's benefits, it might be worthwhile talking to a couple of doctors about the risks and advantages in your particular situation if you are considering taking it. I do not think the average swayer (with no history of pre-e, etc.) should take aspirin in pregnancy.

I took low-dose aspirin while conceiving both my boys not for fertility or swaying purposes but because I take it regularly to prevent breast and skin cancer. I thought it swayed blue because it improves fertility--can it really be part of a pink sway? I'm not really planning one but if we do try for another I was going to cut out the aspirin.

It doesn't improve fertility. It ~may~ help with implantation.

Yes, it is really part of a pink sway. Tons of people on here took it for their pink sways. We don't entirely know how or why it sways but we've gotten pretty darn good results with it.

Oh, no, please no one read "Oh, I saw this lady say take aspirin to prevent preeclampsia on this message board and so I'm going to do it!" Always consult your midwife or doctor. This particular study is just a really big deal in the community of pre-e survivors that I belong to, because anything that is actually being proven to help in a disease that can be so totally devastating and is still relatively unknown is an amazing advance. As everyone above has said, there are people for whom it can be very helpful, despite the fact that it may carry some risk, and people for whom its an unnecessary risk, and that's really only something to be decided between a family and their care provider. Thank you for the disclaimers - I'm sorry for not adding one to the initial post!
