My DH is being very cooperative about this swaying thing, thankfully! He is a little over weight (probably 25lbs or so) and he is willing to lose some, but here is my question--once he gets on the boy diet with me, he will gain some back. SO: is it better for him to diet and lose all he needs to (which he will do if I ask, I think) OR is it better for him to be on the boy diet??? Does DH losing weight while TTC sway girl, like it does for a woman??We are TTC in October, and I am not sure how long it will take him to lose weight.
p.s. He won't work out, because he is a carpenter and does physical activity all day long, and when he comes home he just wants to relax, so going to the gym is not an option.

My DH... Before DS1 - 275lbs, ate salty foods, red meat, sweets, soda, crap crap and more unhealthy crap. Before DS2 - 275lbs, ate salty foods, red meat, sweets, soda, crap crap and more unhealthy crap. He did lift weights by nothing else. Currently he is 260 and I have only made him cut back on salty/sweet foods and no red meat. He is also taking vitamins.
Maybe try to keep him on boy friendly foods.... carpenter interesting. Make him put on light clothing as soon as he gets home. cotton sleeping shorts with no underwear. My hubby was an inspector during the times my boys were conceived. He was outside a lot and wore jeans. Once he came home at 4pm he put just shorts and a t-shirt on and we normally DTD after 8pm or early morning.Last edited by purplepoet20; June 14th, 2011 at 03:56 PM.

in my opinion an di am no expert, id think have him do what you would do. lose as much weight as he can before boy diet begins but even if he didnt hit his target weight, just start boy diet anyway but just eat healthier and like purple poet said..."stay cool!" haha
youre lucky your dh is doing everything! im lucky my dh will take all 8 supps. he s actually doin a lot more than i expected but he doesnt like to give up the things he looks forward to like coffee (but is takings upps to manage any sperm deficiency), and his precious moroccan mint tea..boo. i want him to stop that but so far no go. :-(
will your dh do any eweight lifting or boy diet excerises at home??

My dh was very fit whem we concieved ds1 168 pounds doing masonry and he had very little fat and six pack abs(yummy) then with ds 2 he put on alot of weight when he was cooking in a restaraunt he weighed 200 pounds,he lost the weight by ds3 but was flabby.By the time i was ttc 4 he was working at his current job welding marinas and he does alot of heavy lifting so he is pretty toned other then that slight beer belly lol none of his changes seemed to make a difference.

This is true for me too - we have almost 20 years difference between our first son and our last and my husband was stick thin with DS 1 and has really packed it on the last few years, by the time we TTC DS 4 he was sporting quite the preggo tummy. Still has no butt at all though!!!!

He was probably 20 lbs thinner. But we also conceived DD1 when he was thin, too. He has never been skinny, but he was thinner before I got pregnant this most recent time. I think a combo of "sympathy weight" while I was pregnant, and his age catching up to him, have caused him to gain about 10 lbs in the past 2 years.
So it doesn't matter if he eats boy friendly or not? Are the supplements enough?2004

this is an EXCELLENT QUESTION. and one that im still frantic over..and will be until i find out my baby's gender..if/when i getpg. im sjust SOO ready to blame dh already! even tho he is doing all supplements and changing diet SORT of.
my dh sits at a computer all day sometiems walks around to other ppls offices to discuss, meetings, etc white collar job. very stressfull..lots of ppl yelling at him and him yelling back..etc he doesnt get much sleep, very stressed at work. he was big in martial arts but we both relaized it was all cardio. so he s going to try to do more strength building as far as exercise. but he s not a HUGE eater..doesnt want to gain additional wight (which is fine by me) doesnt want to add more calories, cant snack all day bc of hius job and he is not a snacker anyway, cant eat meats/protein in the early AM (he gets up at 4..eats around 5-5:30am) and eats cereal with milk (so protein in that and his raisin bran). so there are things id like to change in his diet..i can add things to his lunch but he cant gaurantee eating protein plus carbs at work. its usually his sandwich then a couple hrs later his granola bar then an hr later a banana. i think he eats more like a 'girl diet' than anything else. loves his sugary carbs. would prefer to eat sugary breads (waffles, french toasts) for breakfast lunch and dinner if he could).
so im wondering about diet vs supplements too for dh.
the supps i plan for him are one a day 50+ (he was offended bc he is not close to 50), zinc for the T, coq10, l-carnitine and larginie for sperm count/motility, b12 for the daily caffeine, folic acid, i think vit E too (for antioxidant, raise pH or whatever its for). im hoping this is enough to counter all the "girl" things he eats.
i know atomic said she thinks the diet is more impt for dw but.....i guess i just feel like teh sperm IS coming from DH first right? so shouldnt we optimize the environment of the semen for the xy sperm to survive longer or thrive better by way of his diet?
just curious!

I don't think the "boy friendly" diet matters as much for DH. That's because the reason swaying works is because your body needs more and higher quality nutrients to sustain a boy pregnancy and also because in nature, mammal mamas tend to raise the babies together in big groups while the dads are more removed from the situation (and may not even be on the scene). So your living conditions, which your body uses diet to judge, has much more of an effect on your baby's chances of survival/reproduction than your DH's do. Your body doesn't know that we live in a world with grocery stores and a nuclear family, it still thinks we're on the savannah - and on the savannah, the mamas who are in submissive roles and/or get the least access to good foods have more of a chance of passing down their genes to the next generation if they have daughters rather than sons. And this is true even in animals/humans that live in a harem, where the babies are all fathered by the same dad!!
The thing that sways in males is related to sperm count. Optimal sperm count goes hand in hand with high testosterone and good physical condition/large size, so in males, optimizing sperm count is what sends that signal that their male offspring are a good "bet" for their genes. So while eating a boy-friendly diet can certainly help with that, a guy can eat a boy-friendly diet all day long and if your sperm count is low because of other reasons (aka regular or special cigarettes or being overweight) that's what sways.
Long story I know but nutshell version - being overweight sways a lot more for a guy than the boy-friendliness of his diet because being overweight can lower his sperm count. On the other hand, boy-friendliness of diet sways more in a woman because a mother's diet is more indicative of the environment her offspring will be born into. (hope that makes sense?!?)!!! Haha my husband was offended by the over 50 vitamins too.
You can see my convoluted explanation above LOL. If you are doing the supps to up his sperm count and he's doing strength training to raise his T levels, THAT will get you where you need to be. Don't worry about the protein and carbs for him. The protein + carbs is for optimizing blood glucose levels and that has to do with what is going on in YOUR body. Remember the whole, XY fertilized eggs like nice level blood sugar?? That is AFTER conception and has nothing to do with DH's sperm.!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!
