Hi Dr. Potter,
What are your thoughts on Saizen? If you are for it, who is a good candidate to benefit from it?

Hi there
Saizen also known as human growth hormone or hGH is an adjuvant therapy that is used in conjunction with regular IVF cycle. There is a review article that supports the use of hGH in poor responders (Harper et al. 2003). There is also an article to support hGH use in women over 40 stating that the live birth rate is improved (Tesarik et al. 2005). The evidence is these articles is not that strong so the use of hGH in IVF patients remains controversial. I use Saizen in select patients that have a history of poor response and also in some patients that have poor egg quality. There are studies in animals that indicate that oocyte quality and fertilization rates may be improved. I hope that this is helpful.
Good Luck!!!
