    All Girl Quintuplets

    busby-family-600.jpg

I have always had an obsession for all things multiples so I love watching this family on their TV show. I find them particular interesting since it is so rare to get all girls in a set of multiples this big.

They are America’s only set of all girl quintuplets, plus they already had a little girl so that is a total of 6 girls in two pregnancies.

Baby Girl #1: Her hubby had low sperm count and motility so he took clomid, count went up but motility still low. She had ovulation issues so they also put her on clomid and then they did IUI treatment. Five IUIs unsuccessful, then she switched to Femara and got pregnant with their oldest girl on the 6th IUI.

Baby Girl #2-6: Hubby’s count were all fine this time. Mom on femara again, first IUI unsuccessful. 2nd IUI they saw 2 mature eggs and 2 not mature eggs so they went forward since most of her other unsuccessful IUIs also had 2-4 eggs. Well wouldn’t you know, all 4 eggs were fertilized. Then the kicker- one of the eggs split into identical twins so 5 babies total and all of them GIRLS. Thankfully, despite the incredible high risk and being born at 28 weeks they are all healthy and doing great now. They are a year and half old now.

It is fascinating to me that even with 4 eggs only girly sperm won. Would be fun to ask her questions about her diet and such.

Omg, identical twins within a set of quints? That is utterly fascinating. I can't get over it!

That actually happens a surprising amount with fraternal multiples - firsthand I've seen 4 different triplets where 2 were ID and then there was a spare - not only online but some girls at my school were, and then a boy I used to go out with ages ago was the "oddball" triplet as he called himself, his brothers were identical but he wasn't.

Oh and also the first quintuplets, the Dionne sisters, were of course also all girls. They were all 5 of them identical. I cannot even imagine the odds of something like that occuring. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dionne_quintuplets

I can't find the reference now but I've read that multiples are much more likely to be all same gender than 50-50.

ETA - don't go looking. there are some really sad stories on multiple births.

In my triplet groups, majority of them are ID twins and a spare - including my pregnancy. What a crazy house that will be in a few years!
