Anyone ever ovulate TWICE in the same cycle????

So...my opk turned positive on July 28th and we got in our one attempt on that day. Was feeling all kinds of crazy symptoms in the TWW, but getting BFNs and two evaps since 8dpo. Fast forward to today, 11 dpo and took an opk for fun...it looks like it usually does when I ovulate the day after!! Not positive, but...almost!

Was super frisky yesterday too, which is my usual thing before OVU every single cycle.

DH and I went ahead and BDd again just in case. I'll take another OPK tomorrow to see if it actually turns positive. How wild!!!!

Lissa many women show a lh surge just before af, myself included. I hope that's not the case with you but just wanted to let you know. How long is your lp normally? If af doesn't show and your opks continue to darken to a positive I would assume you may have geared up to o earlier in your cycle but didn't. Opks can also turn positive if you're pregnant but certainly not before a hpt would. Hope this helps

My LP is normally 14 days. I never get an LH surge before AF or during the TWW. I am a weirdo that uses OPKs during the TWW. Lol. I have only had a second line when I was pregnant in June. I am pretty sure I am not pregnant, so, perhaps I didn't ovulate on the 28th and I am now. It's a good thing I took the test, because if I do ovulate tomorrow or Wednesday I got an attempt in at a good time!

a few different things can be happening here so I'll give a rundown. You cannot ovulate twice in one cycle because the hole the egg comes out of inhibits the release of any other eggs starting a few hours after ovulation.

1)False positive OPK - your body geared up to O and then "changed its mind" and so you surged but did not ovulate. Second positive may be real deal so have attempt!! You can have totally normal O symptoms with a false surge so it's really tricky.

    2) Secondary estrogen surge causing false pos OPK after O - this is a surge in estrogen that happens about 7ish days after ovulation and it can cause positives on OPK even though you already ovulated. It also causes O symptoms like increased EWCM, libido, and even O-type pains for some people.

3)LH surge right before AF comes like PBN is describing. Many of us also have increased libido, EWCM, and false pos OPK right before or during AF.

4)Just tossing this in here for the sake of being thorough but this is very unlikely - pregnancy causes positives on OPK but this will not occur till you can reliably get a positive on a HPT and so would be more in line with 14-16 DPO and you'd not be getting negative pg tests with positive OPK - both would be positive

Any of these things can happen even if they've never happened to you before. it's all about the hormones, and hormone patterns can and do change.

    When in doubt, attempt!!!

I found a scientific article that says we CAN in fact, ovulate twice in one cycle. But, when that happens, it's more like within 24 hours of the first ovulation.

I don't think I was ovulating recently. I think I did in fact ovulate on the 28th and I must have just had an estrogen or LH surge a few days ago.

I started spotting and AF is due tomorrow.

if you go back and reread what I said, I said "starting a few hours after ovulation." this is how fraternal twins are conceived, of course, is with two ovulations one after another. The 24 hour time frame is actually not a hard and fast rule; it's believed that with multiple ovulation the eggs are ~probably~ released one right after the other in the time span of a few hours.

The 24 hour rule is meant to err on the side of caution as a rule of thumb for people using natural family planning methods as birth control. It is the absolute theoretical max a second egg could possibly be ovulated under imaginary ideal circumstances and NOT the real-world fact (which is that as the corpus luteum forms it makes hormones that inhibit all other eggs from being released.) If someone is trying to avoid pregnancy they have to be absolutely, completely, 100% sure there can't be another egg a-comin' hence the 24 hour rule. But that does not mean that many or even ANY second eggs are ever ovulated that long after the first.

that is a completely different scenario than what you described, which is ovulations several days apart from each other.

The scenario I described was even more than several days apart, more like weeks!
I definitely wasn't ovulating again, obviously.

Seems like it was the thing you said about estrogen or LH. That was the first time I had an LH surge so near my period...well...that I noticed! I do tend to take OPKs all through my cycle (not usually during the middle of my period).

AF came today, so didn't ovulate a second time. Seems like it was maybe just the once on July 28th-ish. Or maybe not even then. Because I don't temp, I can't be sure I ovulated at all.

Just so odd what happened this last cycle, though!

99 times out of 100 if you get AF and it's relatively on time (like within 2 months) and relatively normal (not just a little spotting) then you did O. No need to temp, the AF tells the tale!
