I'm so confused on how to go forward. After 1 m/c and 2 chemicals we sought the advice of a specialists. Over the past month my husband and I went thru a battery of tests.
The results of the test were all normal basically except : Vit D was low, progesterone (CD 21) was 5.35 which apparently is very low and a HSG revealed a possibly insignificant spot found on my uterus. Good news: ultrasound done on showed I had 3 follicles on each ovary.
The advice of RE was to come back on cycle day 6-10 of my next cycle and do a procedure with a scope to check the spot on my uterus to rule out if it may be a polyp, etc. If all is good then I would start Clomid next cycle. I asked how the clomid would help and he said that it's possible my low progesterone was keeping me from getting thru the first weeks of pregnancy and he called it "weak ovulation" and that the clomid could give me the needed boost to get thru.
I am very hesitant and afraid of taking any fertility drug because of the risk of multiples but I desperately want another child and a sibling for my son.
My question still is: What is the benefit of Clomid? If I am ovulating on my own, why do I need something to help me ovulate? Does it help with progesterone?
Also, these past two cycles have been very short which is concerning to me because my cycles have always been very normal (28-30 days). Last cycle was 25 days and I am on CD 21 now and already having light spotting.
HELP!! So confused

I'm sorry about the issues you have been having, it must have been quite stressful for you xo
My experience with Clomid was - I have no fertility issues and ovulated fine on my own, I used it purely as a swaying tactic and I fell pregnant 1st try both times with a single baby, both have ended up being girls. I'm not sure about the finer details about how Clomid works, but my Dr did say that sometimes women just need a little extra help kick starting a pregnancy and Clomid sometimes helps with that.

The benefit of Clomid for the situation you describe is that for reasons we honestly are none too sure about, the Clomid can make your egg pop out strong and then also helps with the formation of the corpus luteum, the part of your ovary that makes progesterone. So it can both make a better ovulation with a better egg and then also keeps your prog levels up for that first week to enable that fertilized egg to implant.
So even when you are ovulating, it can be what's called a "weak" ovulation. The egg has a hard time coming out, may be damaged in the process, doesn't make its way into the fallopian tubes like it should, and in the process it damages the corpus luteum (which is actually just the hole the egg comes out of) and so not only is the egg less healthy, but your prog levels are lower, your lining is poorer, and it's just overall harder to conceive. We know based on results that even when people are ovulating, Clomid helps boost chances of conception.
Are you still taking fiber? If so, drop it. How much fat are you getting every day?? I want you to drop skim dairy totally and add in a serving of full fat dairy every day, 4-6 eggs a week, and 1 serving of salmon if you like it, red meat if you don't.!!! Thank you for the replies. All information was very helpful and helped eliminate my concerns. Atomic - Everything you said makes great sense and I thank you very much for everything you. Also, I am not doing fiber and do not do skim dairy or much dairy at all but have been trying to fit in 4-6 eggs per week. I have a serving of chicken per week and sometimes a serving of red meat too. Trying to stay away from red meat though as much as possible for swaying purposes.

I understand that but your shortening cycle indicates we may need 1 serving of salmon or red meat. It's the fat in them that helps, and chicken tends to be low fat. You could have a serving of dark meat chicken if you prefer but make sure it's a decent serving and not like a drumstick, or whatever since ther'es barely enough meat on a drumstick to amount to anything.

Question about Trigger Shot
Since we are on the topic, I wanted to know if you have any opinions/advice about getting a trigger shot. I spoke RE yesterday and said the plan going forward would be to take Clomid, then come in for an US and if I had one or more mature follicles we would do trigger shot and then have an attempt. Does the trigger shot increase chances even more of having multiples? At this point, I have decided to take the Clomid and take the 5-8% risk it carries for multiples because I know I can't sustain a healthy pregnancy at this point on my own but I don't want to increase the odds or put myself at risk for multiples anymore than that.

Trigger shots can be handy to help you time intercourse at a good point in time for conception.
They may raise chances of multiples by encouraging a borderline follicle that would otherwise not be ovulated, to be ovulated. But a lot of people have gotten singletons on them and since many people do them with Clomid it's not totally clear how much of this is caused by the trigger and how much is the Clomid.!!!
