Hi everyone! I'm new here..
My dh and I have the option to add an ivf rider to our policy. I was just curious how many of you were able to successfully have ivf covered through insurance. This is blue cross blue shield in the US. It appears that there are many hoops to jump through for coverage. For example, attempts at lesser cost fertility treatments like iui. Anyone else?
Thanks,
Jen

If you have to do IUI first then it's not an option unfortunately.

But is there really any chance you could get IVF covered if it is elective for gender selection? If so, this would make such a difference for me, the only hesitation we have at this point is the cost.

Absolutely. Many clinics don't care why you're there and billing is seperated from the doctor anyway. They bill under 628.9 unexplained infertility. My first Cycke would have been covered completely. There were no prerequisites whatsoever.
Meds can also be covered even if you do not have IVF medical coverage. Call your prescription drug company and inquire. You can ask about lupron, follistim, gonal-f and see what they say.

Thanks everyone! Looks like we may be checking out other carriers or starting a health savings account. :/
