    Worried...advice please

    Hi,
Had my scan at 11+6, had to have 2 ultrasounds as they couldn't get measurements very well so I then had to have an internal as the sonographer said ' I can't see your baby's anatomy very well ' anyway I had internal and she said it was ok so going through my notes now it says 'the basic anatomy of the baby appears normal at this early gestation, further more detailed anatomical checks will be performed later' what does this mean? I'm really worrying. Advice please x

Here in nz the 12 week scan is usually to measure nuchal Translucency. The image has to be perfectly side on to get correct measurement. I have been asked to go for a walk and come back, or come back another day if they have been busy, with 2 of my babies if they haven't been lying in the necessary position. The 18-20'week scan is referred to as the anatomy scan and I have had notes to say further scan required at that time. It's just a routine comment.
For example if you have a dating scan too early to detect heartbeat, they put a comment saying to come back again. It doesn't mean there is necessarily anything.

Don't be shy to contact your midwife or OB, that's what they are there for

Sounds like they just need to re do the scan to get a better look/position of baby.

It's nothing ominous, don't worry. The report is basically saying that baby's anatomy is normal, but that at 12 weeks they can not get a lot of detail about the various body parts/organs and they recommend that you do the 20 week scan (ie the "more detailed anatomical check") Totally routine and normal.

As for having a hard time getting a good look at the baby, I had the same experience at my NT scan. I was in there for 45 minutes and she switched between internal and external about 4 times trying to get a good look. Sometimes bubs just don't cooperate. Doesn't mean there is something wrong. Sounds like you are right on track of where you should be!
