    Question HSG w/Tipped/Backward/Retroflexed Cervix/Uterus?????

I had an HSG in 2005 which was very painful. We had been trying for our 3rd child for 5 years and our OB decided to have me go for an HSG. I had a horrible experience because I have a tipped cervix pointing down or backwards I think. So the tech had the hardest time getting the cath inserted, but kept trying even propping my bottom up under towels. It was so painful, but one of my tubes was indeed blocked but the tech was able to push the dye through. I got pregnant the third month after, so I really think this helped me to conceive. We have had a fourth child since then and have been trying for our 5th hopefully for a girl for almost three years now. So my OB decided I should have another HSG done.

Well this time, I went to a different imaging center in my town and this time I was determined to have a better experience. My OB gave me meds to take to open my cervix the night before, and pain meds to take right before the procedure. This time I was ready and it would be breeze I thought....

Well the tech tried speculum after speculum and position after position and still could not get to my cervix. He even looked at my past HSG to make sure they were actually able to get it done. And he too decided to prop me up on blankets. Still he could not get it and the pain from him trying was excruciating. He gave up and called my OB. I will find out what she wants to do next week, but after me typing all this long story, could this tipped/retroflexed/backwards cervix/uterus be keeping me from conceiving? .

I mean, yes, we have 4 sons, but could this be why I have all boys, or why I am not able to conceive at all now? Is my husbands sperm even getting to my cervix now? Could it be getting more turned backwards? or are there positions we could try differently to get the swimmers where they need to be? I just don't know what to think? Anyone have any information of this type of cervix or point me in the right direction as to what to do next. I can't be the only woman with this problem????

Thanks in advance for reading and replying. Blessings to you all!!

Have never thought about it. I am sure my insurance would not pay for it. And if they can't find my cervix for an HSG, I am sure inseminating me would be very difficult as well. Thanks for the PM, I will contact her.

I have terrible insurance in many ways and they pay for IUI unlimited. I do happen to be in a state that mandates infertility treatment. Also maybe they can put you under light sedation and they'll get to your cervix!! Call your insurance TODAY just find out.

    a) Tipped uterus was ONCE believed to cause issues with fertility but not any longer 50% of all women have tipped uterus. The real question that needs to be answered is why was your tube blocked? Things that can plug tubes DO interfere with fertility, do they have any explanation why your tube was blocked??

b)I have a majorly tipped uterus, the position of my cervix is so bad that they can't get pap smears on me without huge efforts and I have huge amounts of pain when they try and usually bleed afterwards. It interferes with my bladder function it's so bad. But I have no prob. getting pg. The position of your cervix doesn't matter for your husband's sperm - that's why they can swim! CM comes from your cervix regardless of the position and makes a nice path for the sperm to make it inside the cervix. If it makes you feel better to lay on your stomach after intercourse, that's fine and can't hurt.

c)Tipped uterus does not sway in any way. We've done tons of polls on it and both boy moms and girl moms have them. 50% of all women have them.

My tube was blocked in 2005 and I don't remember asking why, but they were able to clear it and at that point, I guess that is all that mattered to me. Are there any reasons that you know of?

Another question popped in my heard....If it's tipped so extremely like mine is, am I really even feeling it when I think I am checking my cervix? Maybe I am only feeling part of it?

I too have major issues with my pap smears as well and also bleeding afterwards.

Thanks for the info, I just wanted to make sure this would not be a reason for me not to conceive this time. I am still waiting to see what my OB thinks we should do next.

    Congrats on your baby girl!!!

I have a call into my OB and will ask if they would consider it under sedation. I would love to be knocked out and not remember a thing LOL!!!

I seriously doubt you're feeling your cervix if they can't even find it when you're in the stirrups. Altho you never know, maybe standing up helps your cervix to shift position and may make it easier??

Endometriosis and PID can block your tubes along with scar tissue and then genetic defects. All those things can cause infertility because if the egg can't even get thru your tubes, it can't be fertilized.

    Thank you!!
