Worried about GD: Ultrasound Advice!

Hello everyone,

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post please feel free to move it as you see fit.

I'm considering getting a gender scan at 18 weeks in secret (not telling DH or Mum).

I decided not to find out the gender until my anatomy scan the first week of November, my Dr however said I could come back at 16 weeks for a gender scan. The reason I decided to wait was because I didn't want to deal with the 'maybe's and just wanted a clear answer.

Well now DH is going away for 10 days at the end of October, by which time I will be 18 weeks. I am considering going and doing a secret ultrasound so that I can deal with the GD alone and be better prepared just incase DH gets a bout of GD as well when we 'find out' at the anatomy scan.

There are two reasons stopping me from doing this:
- I'm not sure how I will handle the GD alone
- If it's my DG I don't know how I'm going to contain my excitement

So should I get the secret scan done or should I wait until DH is back and we find out together?

Your suggestions and advice are much wanted and appreciated!

maybe you should sit down with your dh and have a chat because either way it sounds as though both of your reasons for not finding out are possibly going to get you found out, lol, especially if hubby knows you well:-). You made the baby together, find out together :-). If he wants the boy and it's a girl then you can be there for him and visa versa for it's a boy. Share it with him, you may feel better for it too!

It is really only you who can make the decision. Would you rather break the news to Hubby if it is bad or have him hear it from the tech?

I agree- I think the only thing to do is sit down and talk with DH. Tell him you'd really like to find out before your scan and see if he'll go with you even before he leaves? That way you don't have to be alone if you have GD and he can share in your excitement if it's your DG!!

I think you're right, if I'm going to go ahead and get the scan I'm better off telling him then have him figure it out later.

I feel better after getting it out and will probably be able to push through until our 20 weeks scan though
