Does ovulation only last a few hours? newbie needs help

I got my period on May 3rd. It ended on May 11th. May 11 was also the day I got my IUD removed. This is the first month I have ever tried to analyze my CM.

May 16th- felt a "fullness" in my V. Is this ovulation pain? I have noticed this feeling before but never paid attention.

May 17th- 11am CM is creamy, white and it breaks very easily. Doesn't stretch at all.
6pm CM is eggwhites. Gobs and gobs of stretchy EWCM.
11pm CM is back to creamy, white, breaks very easily. No more EWCM

Is the EWCM the indicator that Ovulation has taken place? And once its gone, is ovulation over?

I plan on doing O+12....so if this EWCM meant I had begun to ovulate, would I DTD at 6am the next day?

Please somebody help me understand this. lol this is all so foreign to me! And yes I have been researching and constantly reading through the threads.

ALSO: What is a cut off?

Does cut off mean that you DTD whenever, but if you are doing a "7 day cut off" that you DO NOT DTD or allow hubby to help himself for 7 days?

I've never had OV pains so not sure if that could be them or not, but have heard people say that they can be an ache/twinge/pain lasting minutes or hours around the ovary area

it would be unusual to have such a small timeframe of EWCM, but it's possible! was it defintely EWCM and not leftovers after DTD? semen and EWCM can be very similar as both are stretchy and clearish so easily confused

a cut off is when you don't DTD a certain number of days before OV - 4 day cut off means you stop DTD 4 days before OV... although I'm not certain the science supports a cut off working, it's only one book that says "if you have sex a long time before OV you're more likely to get a girl" and in reality it might be the opposite as some studies say you're more likely to get a girl from DTD at OV time

Yes, it def wasn't semen, we haven't DTD this week. I actually am trying to stay away from my hubby. Don't want to get accidently pregnant with another boy lol.

Yesterday (May 18) I noticed that I had some more EWCM. So maybe when I checked, (after I wiped) i had cleaned out all the EWCM, and my body was still trying to produce more?

I'll take these q's one at a time.

    1) That is a super long period, is it always that long? Are you having heavier than normal bleeding and are you taking either cran or baby aspirin??

2)Fullness in the V area is a common sign that O is near. It's because more blood goes to that area around ovulation (also a big part of the reason you may feel a bit more interested in DTD during ovulation.). O pain is different, it's actual cramps or pains that you feel. For an indepth description of O pains read this: http://genderdreaming.com/forum/show...tting-in-depth

3)That is a pretty short period of time to have EWCM but if you're doing diet and supps, it may very well be that they're working for you. If you're not doing anything yet, be encouraged because at least that month, your EWCM pattern was girl friendly.

4)EWCM is NOT an indicator that ovulation has occured. You can get EWCM several days before ovulation and sometimes it goes away before ovulation has even occured.

5)Your EWCM drying up is considered to be a good sign that O has occured, but also it's best to monitor your cervical position as well just to be on the safe side. Please read this description of how to do O+12 and see if it answers your questions. http://genderdreaming.com/forum/show...How-to-do-O-12

6)Again, don't go off the beginning of when you get EWCM to go for O+12. You can get EWCM many days before O. When your EWCM stops (AFTER getting an OPK that is, because sometimes you get a flood of EWCM days before ovulation and then it kinda dries up) is much more important than when it begins (this is described more in the essay.) Did you happen to take an OPK? It would be helpful to know if you had creamy CM before or after ovulation actually occured.

7)Cutoff for pink is DTD a few days BEFORE ovulation takes place and then counting on the presence of at least a little EWCM to keep the sperm alive until the egg arrives.

That is entirely possible. EWCM isn't like turning on a faucet where a bunch flows out perfectly evenly until ovulation shuts it off, it comes in bursts. You'll get more of a feel for it over time and that's why it's prob. best to chart a few months in advance, so you can get used to the patterns of your own personal EWCM.

Thanks atomic My periods are irregularly long. I use to have normal periods, but when I got an IUD placed, I began to bleed for like 1 1/2 weeks...really spotty long periods. I got my IUD removed so I am waiting till I get the hang of charting and have all my supplements in order before TTC.

So I have not been TTC at all, am not on the diet, because we aren't going to TTC for a few more months. I am just trying to chart for a few months before we TTC. I have NEVER in my life even looked at or even paid attention to my CM.

I hope they straighten out now that the IUD is gone. That sucks!!

I think it's a fantastic idea that you're charting for a few months before TTC. It really helps you get a feel for it.
