    Soda, Fun with pH testing??

Hey ladies, so I tend to have a little ocd and that is spilling into my sway! I found this website: http://biology.clc.uc.edu/scripts/phresl.pl with the results of pH testing of lots of things, including sodas. The lowest soda they list is Diet Rite, with a pH paper reading of 2.75 and meter reading of 1.75. But I think Diet Rite doesn't have aspartame. Here are the next, in order from lowest to highest according to their study (using paper reading):

    Paper Reading Meter Reading
    Regular Pepsi 2.88 3.33
    Regular Coke 3.16 3.23
    Pepsi, Caffeine free 3.50 2.82
    Diet Pepsi 3.87 4.26
    Coke, Caffeine free 4.00 4.40
    Diet Coke 4.14 5.13

I would love to know the pH of Pepsi Max, since it is super low in sodium. Also it looks like regular soda has lower pH than diet. I would have thought it was the other way around. So my question is, we want diet though because of the aspartame right? So a diet pepsi with a meter reading of 4.26 would be better than a regular pepsi with meter reading of 3.33 because of aspartame?

By the way, milk registered kind of high, 6 - 7 pH. I was surprised by that.

dang it didn't space out like I typed it. The first number is pH from paper reading and the second is pH from meter reading.

how did they get such accurate results from paper?

so should you go for the least or most acidic? wouldn't it be the least acidic?

yeah, for a girl you want the most acidic, but the most acidic is the lowest number. So diet rite would be the most acidic. But it doesn't have aspartame, and I think that aspartame, even though its a poison for most people, is a good thing for a pink sway. I just don't know which soda would be best, I don't really have a preference for taste. I was surprised diet coke is so high. I'm ordering my test strips and will try it out myself. There are pH strips on amazon that go in increments of .2 to be more accurate.

I thought for a girl you wanted the LOWEST acidic (highest number) as eating/drinking more alkaline foods makes your body pH change to become more acidic to compensate?

Eating acidic foods is not always a good thing for a pink sway... lemon or lime water is very acidic but turns alkaline in the body. The aspartame or splenda stays acidic in the body because our bodies are not meant to digest/absorb it so it makes it way through out the digestive tract and turns everything acidic on it's way out. If you follow the acidic foods/drinks thinging it will make you more acidic then we should be eating lemons, limes, and steak.

Crystal light with my filtered tap water was about 3.5 on a digital.
Diet Rootbeer (can't handle the diet cola) was about 3.2

thanks pp, so do you think most acidic is better or most acidic that also contains aspartame? So diet soda? I would prefer the diet, I looked at a bottle of regular coke at the gas station today and it had 240 calories!!! wth

Only drink diet soda... keeps blood sugar low, less calories, and turns you acidic. It is the fake chemical sugars that turn everything acidic and that is what you want. Real sugar, honey, agave, and one fake sugar I forgot the name of or for boys diets. I am drinking things with aspartame and splenda, can't wait to have real sugar again.

The best things to drink are crystal light, diet caff free sodas, and reverse osmosis water.

    Where in AZ are you?
