Hi girls,
I know we should not read too much in pH but I tested for the last couple of weeks and can't stop to think about it.
I've been following the diet for more than 12 weeks now and my pH went down to 4–5. I usually got (and still get) fertile/EWCM some days before I actually O and the pH of this CM is ALWAYs 6–7!
Isn't diet/supplements supposed to lower ph and dry up CM? Or does EWCM always have a higher pH?
I've been strictly following the diet, no cheating. Does the fertile/EWCM days before O and the higher pH mean diet didn't change anything (like hormones etc.) for me?
I'm feeling really frustrated and discouraged right now.![]()

EWCM ALWAYS has a higher pH. That is normal. Studies have shown that if your pH is below 6 you will have NO living sperm in your cervix. Not X, not Y. Please don't feel frustrated or discouraged, you cannot get pregnant without that little burst of alkalinity.

Thank you so much, it makes me feel a lot better.
Just to get it right, why do so many girl seem to have a pH of 4 (or say so) and still get pregnant?
As I still get fertile/EWCM a couple of days before O after 12 weeks of diet, does that mean my body chemistry didn't change at all?Last edited by Usagi; April 5th, 2016 at 05:47 AM.

Those women either only checked their CM outside their fertile time and assumed it wouldn't change, or they washed away all their CM with douching, or counteracted their higher pH CM with Rephresh or acijel and didn't test the CM right up at the cervix, where it really counts. You can have a low pH near the vaginal opening but a much higher one at the cervix.
If you haven't seen ANY change/reduction in your fertile CM I might wonder about diet, or maybe your body is just slower to respond to it. But you do want to have SOME EWCM (a couple of days before O is normal when swaying, i have that too) or you can't get pregnant. It's also possible your CM is different and more girl friendly now in ways that we can't test, even though it seems like there hasn't been a change.
My Ovulation Chart currently TTC, Cycle #16 since last BFP
TTC #1- swaying pink on & off since Nov 2013 - hoping for a girl first but excited for either!
Dec 2001 - May 2006 : 5 early abortions of healthy singletons (3 medical @5w, 2 surgical @8w, last 4 pregnancies conceived with late DH, all conceived while TTA/on birth control)
Mar 2012: miscarried B/G twins @5w (conceived 2 cycles after remověng Paraguard copper IUD while NTNP), one twin was ovarian ectopic
Me: 34, widowed, late O + short LP, normal-good hormone levels excepting undetectable testosterone, seeking a known sperm donor/life partner
My sway: vegetarian LE for over 28w, skipping breakfast, fibre (ground psyllium husks) with/before/between meals, physically inactive, drama avoidance, ocassional minimal YesBaby lube as needed, alternate cycles on low dose Clomid, double shot lattes (with meals)
Past sway tactics I've dropped (in order): Vitex, Sudafed, antihistamines, intermittent fasting, one attempt per cycle at positive OPK, one attempt in fertile period

I have been on the diet for 17 weeks now (pretty strictly) and have noticed lots of bodily changes but this is the first month when my amounts of EWCM has changed. The previous 3 months I've had my usual copious amounts! This month - not much at all. Wondering if it takes a few cycles to make a difference or if my body is just slow to respond!

Thank you so much for answering, ladies!
I did see some changes in CM, I had little to no "sticky" CM before – now it is sticky/creamy short after AF and (most of the time) after ovulation.
It is more about the period of time of fertile/EWCM which made me worry. CM starts to get stretchy about 4–5 days before O …
I'm using a diva cup to collect CM and need to leave it in for a couple of hours to even retrieve a good sample, so I don't think I have too much EWCM?
This is our first cycle of ttc, so I'm really nervous right now. According EWCM – I should be fine attempting this month, right?
Honeybee, are you ttc already?

I think as long as you're noticing SOME change, the diet is working. And amount matters just as much as type of CM. I've been on the diet over 6 months and still have cycles with 4+ days of EWCM sometimes. But it's still much less than before. And every woman and every cycle is unique, especially when swaying. There's no one 'right' amount/type of CM when swaying; any change sways pink. You don't want to become infertile, just LESS fertile than before.

They either checked it early in the cycle and not around O OR were using so much gunk in their VJ that is all they were really testing.
What happens is, when you BD, your husband's semen and your EWCM can make a little "life raft" of higher pH that some sperm can stay alive in, until they're up inside out of reach of the low pH goop.
I would also (humbly) suggest that some people were fibbing on what their pH really was.
What you need to understand about EWCM is that you need some in order to get pregnant at all, and there very well may be changes you cannot see iwth the naked eye. So you may appear to have just as much EWCM but you don't, and/or it may be different in some way. I got my 4th son with no visible CM and with my daughter I did have some. You just can't read too much into that because all it is, is a theory.
The fact is we get great results with 12 weeks + on diet so if you're in that boat, you've done what you need to do.!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!
