So I just got a BFP, and I'm still BFing my DS3 who will turn 6mo this Saturday. My milk supply is just fine right now, and I'm not experiencing any cramping or anything. My OB has said that if women make it past the 4-5mo mark when pregnant and BFing, they prefer weaning to occur at 36 weeks.
I would love to hear any experiences, advice, and suggestions that any of you may have.
Thank you!!

May 18th, 2016, 12:59 PM #2I nursed DS 3 all through my pregnancy with DS 4 and beyond that, and then I nursed DS 4 all through my pregnancy with DD and beyond it. It made a WORLD of difference with engorgement, that was for sure. It was SO nice not to have to fight that.

Why do they want you to wean? What was the justification?!!! Questions?? Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!! Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

May 18th, 2016, 01:02 PM #3I wasn't told. I didn't think to ask at the time. It was when I was TTCing DS3 and I was still sort of BFing DS2 at the time. I'm assuming it's because they want to CYA in case of it causing labor to start early.

I don't have any friends that have continued to BF while pregnant. So I appreciate any and all advice I can get!

May 18th, 2016, 01:34 PM #4Congrats on your BFP!!!!!!! So happy for you!!!

I nursed DS3 until I was 12/13 weeks pregnant with DD1, and then he didn't like the taste anymore. I did have 2 miscarriages while nursing DD1, and my OBGYN told me to wean, but my charting instructor told me it wasn't necessary. I went on to have a healthy pregnancy (with DD2) while nursing DD1. And then Tandem nursed

May 18th, 2016, 01:46 PM #5I nursed DS1 until I was 8 or 9 weeks with DS2. My midwife never saw a problem with nursing beyond that (I felt done though so I stopped). She even nursed her own son throughout her pregnancy with her daughter and is now nursing both! I think maybe some doctors just don't really know enough about breastfeeding to feel comfortable with a pregnant mom continuing with it. '12 '12

There are so many conflicting opinions out there on breastfeeding while pregnant and whether it can actually trigger early labour or not. I would do some of your own research with an IBCLC rather than just trusting the OB, their training on breastfeeding can be hit and miss.Last edited by Erin514; May 18th, 2016 at 09:32 PM. Wauhhh. Huge congrats XX. That is quick. You must be so happy. Back in 2007 I got pregnant with DS2 when DS1 was 5,5 month old and I was still breastfeeding. Shortly after he started to reject my breast and I was told that the milk change taste when pregnant because of hormones, so I stopped BF and changed to bottle. 3 beautiful & now pregnant with a baby girl due June 2017 & now pregnant with a baby girl due June 2017

Thank you everyone in this site and in particular Atomic for amazing support during my sway. I am for ever grateful.
