    Dissapointing 12w scan

Title say it all, actually I'm devastated and need some positive thoguhts...

Went today at 13+w (by my dates, lmp/conception) for my NT scan. Didn't start well as she said my womb is tilted right back into my spine. I have a retroverted uterous and have often had to have vaginal scans but its never proved to be a huge issue. She said that due to my scar tissue and tilted uterous she couldn't check the baby sufficiently but I suspect she didn't actually want to say "because your fat". Ive always been a normal BMI in past pregnancies but not this time. She said I'm measuring 13w and asked if she could do a vaginal scan. I was quite prepared so agreed.

She was huffing and puffing about and had to press the wand right in and back, very uncomfy and I could see that the position of the baby was terrible. It was facing toward my coccyx with only back of the head and back showing with an occasional glimpse of a limb as it was kicking. She was moving the wand all about and it was very painful. She then moved and I seen a potty shot (very girly) and she moved to the other side. Long and short of it is she couldn't do the NT measurement and because of this it is NHS policy not to do the NIPT for downs, edwards and pataus either. She kept saying she couldn't check face or any features but could see a heart beat. I asked about a re scan but she said NHS don't rescan for the NT/dating. I didn't even get a photo I'm totally gutted. Ive always been able to have the screening and bought the lovely pictures. Its more the uncertainty. Then to add insult to my injury ive been moved back a full week meaning if that's right ive conceived at least 5 days after the last sex. now I know everyone is going to quote me that shettles is disproven but I'm sure you can imagine how I'm feeling about the whole thing. Unable to do the genetic screening and now also looking more girly by the second. That due date is gospel now as they wont change it.

the only thing the NHS could offer was the quadruple test at 17w then by time I get results, have an amnio (if needed) and get results I will be pushing 19w. Given my age and the fact that ive had a high risk result previously I had a total meltdown. Ive just been to have the harmony test privately (at a great expense), thankfully they fit me in within an hour, so I will get the result in 7-10 days but I'm just distraught. Worried about the screening, knowing its unlikely to be a boy and having my due date moved by so much and not even having a photo of my baby. Its just not been a good day and my hormones are making me cry uncontrollably. Nobody even knows I'm pregnant yet so I have just got to put this brave face on and get on with it. Anyones advice, words of wisdom or similar experiences much appreciated. Thanks you

I'm sorry. I wish they would have treated you with more empathy. Good call on getting the harmony test done. No need for you to worry unnecessarily.

Thanks. I know its so silly as I hadn't give it a second thought till today. But because they couldn't do the tests it immediately hit me that if theres anything wrong I wont find out till its almost too late. I'm one of them that needs to know. At last my minds took of my gender nerves for now.....

I'm sorry to hear you've had a rough day. I thought at this gestation what's between their legs is all much of a likeness? At least the harmony will give you definitive result on all aspects. Big hugs xx

They do and they don't 3. It's all about white lines which admittedly weren't 100% clear. Girls have 3 adjacent white lines. Boys have one. Its too early to definativly base it on that but it looked very girly to me! Will know soon enough anyhow

Sorry you weren't treated very well. Why did they move your dates if she said you were measuring 13w?

I'm not sure how reliable a potty shot is yet? I hope you get the harmony results back quickly!

Hi purple. They measured 13w exactly on the abdo scan. Which is possible if ov was delayed a day or two. But when they done the internal scan which she said was more reliable they measured it at 12+2. Thanks so do I x
