    Metformin Questions

I’m not sure where to post this, and it’s not really sway related per say. But is metformin taken to prevent miscarriage? I’ve read that it’s taken with progesterone? I’m on my 2nd miscarriage in 3 months, and am desperate to find the cause and a cure.

No. Metformin is a medication to help keep blood sugar levels stable. Are you Type II diabetic or have PCOS? If so, this medication helps regulate your blood sugar levels without needing insulin.

Thank you for your reply. I don’t know where I read that it was used to prevent a miscarriage. I guess I’m just trying to find anything to help!

Yes it will decrease miscarriage risk in those with PCOS. With my first 2 pregnancies, my doctor kept me on it through the first trimester for that exact reason. Im so sorry for your losses. Prayers you get your sticky bean soon!

Thanks, Atomic. My dr told me that she will immediately start me on progesterone and baby aspirin as soon as I get pregnant again. Didn’t you have reservations about baby aspirin? And why?

Also, I’ve read where you recommend folate vs folic acid for women who have had losses. How much do you recommend? Any other tips to keep a pregnancy next time?

One more question- (sorry!![emoji85]) So I am getting tests run in 2 weeks. I should be ovulating at that point. I’m swaying pink. Should we have an attempt this month and try to catch the first egg after a miscarriage (although this might have been a chemical. We aren’t sure anything developed, but I didn’t bleed till I was 6 weeks.) Or should we wait and see what the results say. And she could possibly give me clomid. Although, she didn’t say anything about it, I’m just wishful thinking

It is fine if your doctor is recommending it. I am talking about for people who have NOT been under the care of a doc just taking it. And the reason is because for people who don't need it, it may make miscarriages more likely, not less likely. Only people who are under the care of a doctor should be on aspirin.

    1200-1600 mcg folate

Unfortunately all the tips in the world are really mostly useless. Most losses are just sheer random chance and not anything preventable.

I would try to catch the first egg provided it's okay with your doc.

Thank you so much! Is 2000 mg folate too much? I just bought 1000mg pills...
