    Clomid and overstimulation

    Dear all,

I'm in my 3rd Clomid cycle (clomid for swaying purposes only) and my gyn detected 5 large cysts and various eggs last week. She told me I overreacted to the clomid and she was very surprised since I took the lowest standard dosis (50mg). The pain of the overstimulation kicked in yesterday and I'm very concerned how to continue my sway and would be very grateful if you could help me:

    - has anyone of you experienced an overstimulation with clomid and with such a low dose?
    - what does this overreaction mean?
    - what could be the next step? Femara? Is it likely that I will overreact to femara as well?
    - should I forget about clomid and femara and just continue with the diet (I also need to go over my protein limit with the cysts now) and pick up the diet and exercise when I'm allowed to exercise again (I can't exercise with the cysts right now).
    - should I exercise again for at least 6 weeks when I pick up the exercise again or should we attempt the month after clomid despite the exercise pause?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

hi dear, I tell you my experience. I hired clomid 50 just for swaying reasons, I managed to get it through a friend. Before taking it I went to visit the doctor, I had not been there for a long time. My ovaries were clean all right. I took clomid from day 5 to 9 and at the end of the month I was sick. Before taking the next dose, fortunately I decided to tell the gynecologist everything and make a visit. He found me three cysts of six centimeters, one on one ovary and two on the other. The doctor said it is a drug that should be taken only under ultrasound. Above all 10% of women can have functional cysts of a fertile age normally without problems. They are functional cysts or corpus luteum that do not give problems and that go away spontaneously. If one takes clomid without knowing he has a cyst he can give proplemi. and always important to do a pelvic exam before taking clomid explained to me the gynecologist.
He told me to be calm about not taking it anymore and waiting for two menstrual cycles that usually the cysts go away alone, that we could try the same to conceive even if according to you with the cysts I would not have been able to get pregnant. in the meantime I went on with my diet and exercise, just light walking. After two cycles I visited and the cysts had disappeared, but I found three ripe eggs ready to burst. The doctoress

The doctor says that they are caused by a hormonal upset and not by clomid but according to me and still the drug, it seems strange to develop three eggs. I hope you understand this English. Do not worry that everything will be fine. and for the other ladies, be careful to take drugs without control

another thing, I also asked the doctor how it was possible that the lowest dose could create many problems and she replied that everyone reacts differently. good luck

Thanks so much for replying, dear Lea! It seems that our bodies are both very sensitive to hormones. Wow, after clomid you still developed 3 eggs! How are you going to proceed? Do you take femara or did you decide to continue without the hormones? I'm happy for you that your cysts have gone and that gives me hope that my cysts will be gone soon.
I have still not figured out if we should ttc next month and use the clomid effect in the following month or if I shoud start the exercise again for 6 weeks and wait one month.
Good luck to you! Maybe you could keep me posted about how your story continues?

Do not worry, it's a pleasure.
Yes, I developed three eggs, in the end we decided to do the same thing. After 5 months of diet and 4 of exercise it is becoming difficult. I have problems keeping the weight, I left 50 kg and now I weigh 45 kg. With all this exercise and being behind small children (one is 4 and a half years old
21 months) and having changed so much the diet and my habits is becoming very difficult.
I have to tell you that after this experience I was very afraid and decided not to take any more drugs. In mid-May, I have another visit with the gynecologist if I can not get pregnant, but I will never take these drugs without the gynecologist's supervision.
You'll see that the cysts will leave, it only takes time. Even the doctor said that in most cases they go away spontaneously with the arrival of the mesturations. in two menstrual cycles the cysts went away.
The following month in clomid I made two attempts and the other times always an attempt.
I never stopped with diet and exercise, I was walking on tapirulan and now I have been revving with a light run for a month. I honestly did not ask if it was contraindicated to exercise I just continued. has your doctor told you to rest? I do not know if you have to start doing 6 weeks, surely the lady will know how to advise you.
I'll let you know very willingly, let me know how

It's very rare. It is not at all what our experience has been and overstimulation on 50 mg has really been only in a handful of people, two of which are here in this thread!

The thing with being monitored by a doctor is this - the doctors are pushing too high a dose onto people anyway. I have seen doctors pushing 100-150 mg Clomid onto people with no monitoring at all, regularly. I am often urging people to take less than their doctor prescribed. The only case we have ever had of true OHSS (this is not what you guys have, this was a medical emergency) was a woman who had been given 150 mg Clomid by her doctor. They are NOT doing exams on people, they are NOT doing blood tests on people, and a truly shocking amount of doctors are having people just start the Clomid in the middle of the cycle even when a woman may be pregnant!! (this is very very dangerous and just happened within the past two weeks.) And being monitored is no guarantee either - the only set of Clomid triplets we have ever had was in a woman who was being monitored by her doctor, who saw one egg and told her to have sex and she ended up with non-identical triplets.

The reason I mention all this is because while it's definitely an ordeal that lea and Phalaenopsis have been through, it's really rare and the doctor being involved is really not as preventative as one might think. It would be very easy for me (and honestly for my own protection, I probably should) to have nothing to do with Clomid and pass this all off onto the doctors but the doctors themselves are not handling Clomid responsibly. So I will just say that while this is a rare occurrence, it does happen sometimes even on 50, and taking Clomid (with or without a doctor) is entirely at your own risk. If you feel like your doctor is being too aggressive with Clomid dose, you don't have to take it all. And also be aware that even if they do ultrasounds on you, Clomid DOES cause multiples and the ultrasounds are NOT fully preventative of multiples occurring. At your own risk!

Femara is less likely to overstimulate the ovaries but I'd be wary of taking it.

The only thing this means is that you're sensitive to Clomid. There's no larger meaning.

I would eat what you need to eat now and then pick it up when you're ready. I wouldn't wait another 12 weeks. Play it by ear, see how you do, your diet may not be that bad. Don't be tempted to skimp on the protein, that helps the overstimulation clear up. Exercise when you can, but again don't rush into it, we want your body to heal!
