Sudden cause of short luteal phase/pink sway

    Hi ladies,

So I have been swaying pink since December, not too strict for the past week or so. I got my mirena removed end of February and got my first AF 4 days later but I ovulated very late, CD 23, before baby I had regular luteal phase 13-15 days. I definitely have been drinking a lot more aspartame and eating lowfat foods, I also used to exercise everyday but stopped for the past 2 weeks because I got busy with guests and didn't have time. Was wondering what the cause of this short luteal phase can be because even when I had the mirena in I had regular cycles but now my body is confused. Could it be the aspartame, or exercise or maybe even a side effect of having Mirena? Has anyone experienced this before?

Also,DH and I BD the night before positive Ovulation, I thought I probably wasn't going to ovulate this month since I'm used to ovulating CD 13-15 so we said why not but that night I took an Ovulation test and it was positive, it was also positive in the morning then turned negative during the day. I'm wondering if its possible to be pregnant, I'm not even sure when my AF is supposed to come since my cycle has been very wacky coming off of Mirena and it makes me nervous because I did not sway for about 2 weeks! This is the first time that I cant wait for AF to show up! I want to have another chance to sway properly. TIA

first of all, ovulating CD 23 is NOT "very late". That's barely late.

Having the Mirena removed changes things. You can't draw any conclusions about anything right now. Your cycles on the Mirena don't tell you anything about what your cycles will be now (and certainly not for the first month or so coming off the Mirena)

That having been said, you CAN have your cycle affected by exercising too much, not eating enough calories, and cutting back too far on fat. Are you getting a minimum of 30 g fat every day? How many calories are you eating??

Yes, it's possible to be pregnant. The good news is getting pregnant that first month off the Mirena may help sway pink a bit more. Your AF will still come about 2 weeks after you ovulated.

I was used to normal cycles so that's why CD23 seemed late for me but good to know that its normal. Thank you for your feedback. Yes I have at least 30 g of fat in my diet. I was eating between 1200-1500 calories some days more or less. Ok so I still have time until AF shows up, I have been getting cramps and backache's so thought AF could be near. Also, TMI but the BD was in the shower, does that decrease chance of pregnancy?

I understand it's late for you, it's just that people really panic without realizing that anything up to CD 21 is considered totally normal and then anything CD 21-35 is barely outside of normal range. Lots of people regularly have 6-8 week cycles and while that's not ideal, it just illustrates why not to worry about slightly beyond nomral.

1200-1500 is quite low in calories. Only about 3-5% of swayers eat that much. I'd try upping cals slightly to 1500-1800.

On occasion, you can have a short LP tacked onto the end of a delayed ovulation so you can both O late and get AF a bit early but most of the time, you will have a 12-14 day LP after whenever ovulation occurred.

It may cut odds of conception a little but definitely still possible.

That makes sense to why I lost 10-12 pounds, I will def up my calorie intake. My bmi is 23.1 now so I was hoping to lose at least 10 pounds until ttc. I had 23.7 BMI when I conceived DS. I don't think weight has much to do with swaying but it would be nice to start at a lower weight this time, since last pregnancy I got up to 194lb!

weight loss hasn't been as predictive of successful sway as time on diet, but we do have scientific studies that show and link and it's best for those who can spare it, to lose a little. You're on the right track, good luck!
