    Yakult

    I read on ingender about acidophilus dramatically lowering pH (although in some women it raises it - so I guess I would have to test it out to see if it works for me..).
    Rather than taking this in pill form, would it be ok to just drink a couple of yakults?
    Also is this something that should be avoided after ovulation? (It said take from AF to O)....

    Absolutely, so long as it doesn't have a ton of sodium/potassium, if you're trying to keep them low. Also you may want to keep an eye on your fat/protein intake and make sure that the yakult is just a part of your diet so you're not getting gobs of extraneous cals by drinking them.

    Probiotics are safe to take thorughout your cycle and throughout pregnancy (and in fact, we all probably should take them throughout pregnancy).

    What a great idea - Yakult Light also contains Aspartame!

    These are the ingredients:

    Water,Skimmed Milk (Reconstituted) ,Glucose Syrup ,Sweeteners (Maltitol Syrup, Aspartame) ,Dextrin ,Flavouring ,Citric Acid ,Contains Lactobacillus casei Shirota ,Contains A Source Of Phenylalanine

    and there are only 31 cals, 0.8g protein, 0.01g sodium and it's very low fat. I read elsewhere on the web that there is no potassium in it.

    I guess we should just make sure not to have it first thing in the morning!

    Ok, the problem with potassium is that legally it does not have to be listed in the ingredients so sometimes people say things have no potassium, when they actually DO. All dairy has potassium, so anything that's made of milk will have potassium in it. So on a site like sparkpeople and fitday, where it's actual people entering in the nutritional info, there are often mistakes made where they enter 0 for potassium because it's not on the label BUT it's in there. I can all but guarantee there is a fair amount of potassium in Yakult, probably about the same as in an equivalent amount of skim milk.

    I see - so on that basis there's about 111g of potassium in a bottle of Yakult Light. I've somehow managed to miss how much we should be aiming for in a day - is that good or bad?!

    It's not bad at all! You have 2500-3500 mg to play around with if you're following the mineral numbers as suggested on IG.

    Thanks for that info. It would make life a whole lot easier if potassium was on the labels!
