I was just replying on another thread and it made me think about family size. Where we live, it's very common to have 2 but no one bats an eye at families of 3; they are everywhere... and not just 3 of a kind, many people with PP for the 1st 2 go for 3 around here. I know very few families with an only child.
4 is pretty rare here though. It would definitely have shock valueAnd more than 4 ... I can't think of a single family I know with more than 4.
What is it like where you live?

Well I currently live in NYC--if you plan to live in NYC people think you are crazy for having more than 2 since it's just sooo expensive. I grew up in NJ though (and will move there) and there it's exactly what you said--1 and 4 are rare but heard of and 2 or 3 is normal. Tons of PP parents have a third!
(born March, 2012)--IVF at RMANY (no GS for first one since no real preference-said we'd do it for second one)--23 eggs--12 fertilized with ICSI--1 frozen
March/April 2013--SIRM NY--23 eggs, 15 embryos, 2 girls transferred, 1 girl and 1 unknown (only 4 celled at day 3 so no biopsy) frozen. BFP on HPT at 6dp5dt, Beta at 8dp5dt=70, Beta at 10dp5dt=216, 1 hb at 6 weeks, ob appt at 7w2d--wow it's twins!!!
CVS--2 HEALTHY GIRLS! Our twin girls were born 6 weeks early, but doing fabulously and we are so in love!! Our family is complete!!!

I live in a mixed type environment...
The Navajo and Hopi Reservation is about a 45min drive east of me and for them 5+ kids is normal.
Among the richer neighborhood 2 is normal. Either GG, BB, and a few PP.
The upper middle class have 2-3 and they normally have at least 1 of each gender.
The middle class families have 3-4 kids. These are the ones that keep trying for their DG.
In the farming area it varies from 3-8 kids. The families with the bigger farms have fewer kids but the famlies with tons of farm animals have more kids. Normal at least 1-2 of each gender.
My group... The Hippy Organic (upper-lower class) families have 2-4 kids. 99% are the same gender.2007

Where I live ( SF Bay Area, Calif.) it's the same. 1 and 4 is not as common as 2 or 3. When we have my step-son that makes 4 boys for us already. I'm sure you can imagine the comments we get! And to possibly add another

Where we live it is similar to what you said, begonia. There are lots of families with 2 or 3, very few only children, and not many families with 4 or more. One family I know with 4 sort of shocked everyone when the 4th came along. I am sure people will be shocked by our 4th as well!

I live on the Gold Coast, Australia. Here most people have 1-3 children...you do see families of 4 a bit though. Anything above 4 is rare, but you do see them around. I have friends who have 6 kids but they live a bit further out of town (40mins away) and I live right in town.

I live in Utah and 3 or 4 kids is the norm. I don't know any 1 kid families, but know some with 2 kids and they are done, 1 lady in my neighborhood has 2 boys, she had her tubes tied. The other two families with 2 kids have a pp, but I think it was health reasons as to why they stopped at two. I was counting and I have four families with 4 boys in on my street. I don't think I have any all girl families, that I can think of. I have 4, but we are trying for #5 soon. I guess will be getting the looks now
