No, in both men and women. It seems to sway "harder" in men.

The more a person smokes, the less sons they conceive, statistically speaking.

Well, it was studied in more than one study and seemed to be true. I also believe it to be true based on my own personal real life observations. No sway tactic is ever 100% and if your body is good at healing the damage and/or you have a boy-friendly lifestyle otherwise, you'll still conceive boys.

It's not WHAT you do that sways, it's the effect that what you do has on your body.

Many people smoke and never get lung cancer, but that doesn't mean that smoking doesn't cause lung cancer! Not that I am trying to get anyone to continue smoking for swaying and certainly not to start, but just for the sake of the info.

http://ije.oxfordjournals.org/content/32/3/470.full (this is a weird study because it claims not to support the idea that smoking alters the gender ratio, but then the data says it does in heavy smokers and even a little bit in lighter smokers.)

http://www.fertstert.org/article/S00...621-8/abstract (another somewhat confusing study but shows you have to smoke more than 10 cigs a day before gender ratio is affected. Also, interestingly, this study seems to indicate that if you smoke (even less than 10 a day) the more kids you have, the more likely it is you'll have a girl)

I have a question about this-- back in the "old days" when everyone smoked, were there more girls conceived?

There are actually more girls being conceived now for reasons that researchers do not know and are getting very concerned about.

The interesting thing is that two of the best studies on smoking and gender are from Asian countries (Japan and Pakistan) where TONS of people smoke a lot - so one would expect to see a corresponding change in gender ratio. Unfortunately it's very hard to get a handle on what the true gender ratio is in Asian countries due to boy preference and higher rates of gender selective abortion (the gender ratio in Pakistan is 110 but there is no way that is natural). i looked into it a bit and gender selective abortion in Japan at present, is very very rare and their gender ratio is equal to the US at 106. So I doubt it sways too awfully much across an entire population.

What about with Men and smoking? I don't smoke but my partner has since before he started having kids and he has... 6 Boys! including our three, O.K 5 because technically identical twins only count as one child sperm wise. I just hope he does not have to stop smoking in order for us to sway for a girl because that is so not going to happen but looks like it 'should' be in our favour

Just saw your comment Atomic Sagebrush, it seems my partner is an acception with his 6 sons. I'm so scared swaying for a girl will not work for us
