What was your diet like?
I'm a vegetarian (and so is my husband) and we have a boy. It seems everytime I try to get on the girl diet in a strict way (i.e. not eating all the things I would normally eat often)... I seem to delay or stop ovulating! Argh!
So, if you have a girl (whether or not you swayed for her), and you were ALREADY vegetarian, what did you eat typically?

Hi Suregena,
I have a DD and have been vegetarian since I was 8. I didn't sway but my typical diet was crunchy nut cornflakes with low fat milk for breakfast during the week and a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich for breakfast at the weekend (brunch time) For lunch I would have either a bowl of soup with a small bread roll, 3 rice cakes with either peanut butter and banana or mashed avocado and tomato or occasionally a cheese and coleslaw sandwich on a poppy seed roll followed by a low fat yogurt. I would have a piece of fruit in the afternoon and for dinner I usually had pasta with veg (3+ times a week) or cheesy baked rice and veg or rissotto or eggplant, pepper & mushroom fajitas and rarely a bean burger and frys. We would also usually have an indian or thai take away once a week. I was also a sugar monster and would usually have a packet of jelly sweets in the car for snacking on and would also have a bar of chocolate with caramel most evenings with a cup of tea (with 2 tsp of sugar). Most days my calorie intake would be about 1300 to 1500. Also at the weekend I would just have brunch and dinner as well as my sugary snacks.
So as you can see. Not a lot of protein and not a lot of food overall. I also never use salt and even buy low sodium everything incl stock ****s & rice cakes, I rarely ate pulses and nuts or seeds too.
I also would walk for 1 hour + every day with the dog and on top of that I would swim, play golf, horse ride and go to zumba

Thanks!
My normal vegetarian diet, on the other hand, was probably fat + protein city (LOTS of beans, lentils, cheese, full fat everything, etcetera.)
That helps a lot, insight wise, from a vegetarian mom of a boy!2010 - 1 DS

I have 1 boy, 3 girls and have been a vegetarian since 15.
I didn't sway for any, but after I had my son my diet changed quite a bit.
So before having my son I ate 3 meals/day Breakfast-usually cereal with yogurt or banana w/peanut butter
lunch-usually a piece of fruit and a peanut butter & jelly sandwich
dinner-pasta with cheese and veg. burger or bean dip(beans, corn, salsa, spinach, cheese) with corn chips
After my DS
started skipping breakfast or just grabbing a piece of fruit and a cookie after being up for 2-3 hours
lunch (usually not until 2 pm!) salad and potato chips or some pasta or slice pizza
dinner-ice cream with peanut butter
The biggest difference is way less protein and no breakfast. GL-for me I am trying to go back to adding a lot of protein, cutting down on sugar and eating breakfast again
When I got pg. with my son I weighed 120lbs. (BMI-20.6)
DD#1 115lbs
DD#2 118lbs
DD#3 112lbs. (BMI-19.2)
Also, I was breastfeeding with all the girls. Between that and the fewer calories I know my body felt in famine stage.Last edited by n710; June 2nd, 2012 at 05:00 PM. Reason: added BMI

Ah, fantastic stuff! So much clicking going on in my already vegetarian head!
I was about 120lbs before my son and I am currently 112... your post gives me hope that I am moving in the right direction in my sway.
I am also still breastfeeding my son, so bonus!

Yeah Suregena, we basically need to switch our diets. I am hoping by adding back the protein I can get my boy and I bet you take out your protein your blood sugar will be so low you'll get your girl.
I actually had to get blood work done in April and May and my glucose did go up 20pts. I started adding HE diet elements in the beginning of May. Unfortunately, I have actually lost weight 116 down to 112. But I have 4 months before TTC. I think it was adding in the protein and my body didn't think it was "starving" anymore so actually started burning calorieswhen I was working out instead of holding onto them because it thought it was starving.
Hope that wasn't too confusing

What a fabulous post!! Thank you so much because I am doing the whole vegetarian thing and I just read the post about hte skinny celebraties and got down...so i needed this to boost me back up. Keeping my fingers crossed that DH goes through with this in two weeks - our first real attempt- I will be about ten to fifteen pounds lighter than I was with all of my boys- And to all you lovely vegan women filling out what you ate I have to say WHAT THE???!!!! There's nothign wrong with what you were eating it's just I would have lapped ya all by around two in the afternoon...hmmm...how did I have ALL THESE BOYS???

I have it in my head because I'm surrounded by boys within my family, anyway, that I would just always have boys. However, I AM the only vegetarian really in the family, and my husband is also vegetarian (bonus), so I wonder if our boy was a lucky shot and I didn't even realize it? Time will tell! We were in Bruges and eating a LOT of fatty food and he was conceived there, so maybe!
I've cut out beans completely because I ate beans ALL the time... nearly every day (if I had it my way!) so I've literally been focusing my meals around rice and other things like that, rather than beans!
My body KNOWS how much I love beans! I hope I'm freaking it out a little (by the looks of my cycle, I AM... ugh, ha!)2010 - 1 DS

LOL Polish! I've posted about this before but one time I was at a friend's house and she wanted lunch and ate ONE Hot Pocket. I was like, WTH I didn't even know you could eat just ONE Hot Pocket...I thought they came in packs of two for a reason!! Some people really just don't have very big appetites, I guess.
