dloui ,i havent had an epi so cant say but ive heard it slows down your labor, and as for me usually when i am able to get one it is when it is the most painful,if you just hold on from that point, usually its time to push and bang ..it goes so fast ..for me anyways,i really believe if i got one it would take longer, maybe somehow my body feels the pain and says(o.k. enough of this lets get this over)
My first birth was better (sort of ) than my second because i had to get my water broken by the doctor bcause it was taking too long and that was way worse than it happening naturally! And relaxing through the contractions helps alot, thats why i like to prepare mentally, because i believe it helps the pain to relax into it,for me anyhow![]()

The one time I did have an epidural it actually sped up my labor...it relaxed my body enough and I dialated much quicker. Good luck!

I have had 3 epidurals and I have to say they have been great. I never felt any pain with my births. My last labor was 2 hours so I don't think it slowed things down at all. I'm always a little nervous about having the procedure/insertion done though. It does stink that it takes some time before you can walk after the birth. I give you all natural moms a lot of credit though, I"m a big wimp when it comes to pain.

Frankly, I love epidurals! I told the doctor to give me one today and I would just keep the drugs going until labor in December. He wouldn't do it. Spoilsport!
The epidural had with DS3 wore off pretty quickly, and I was able to walk around almost immediately. I think it may depend on the doctor giving it.My awesome boys!(1988)
