Mirena--hormonal IUD yay or nay? Please share your experiences!

    Ladies,

I am on my 2nd week of BC pills and remember now why I detest them! I hate remembering to take them. I can take other things daily, but something about taking BC pills just kills me, like everyday I gotta remind myself that I'm not ready to get pregnant yet.

I've recently discovered that I'm somewhat of a pregnancy junkie. I don't want to go thru the "do I really got to wait?" script in my head everyday. I'd rather have something that I don't have to think about. Because I just had my 3rd c-section 10 weeks ago, I need to give my body at least two years to heal. I really do want a 4th one day, so I am also a little scared off the Mirena because I know in rare cases it can puncture through the uterus, and I don't want to lose my fertility.

So, what are pros/cons of Mirena?

I have also heard that the cycle after Mirena can sway pink because of the hormones...is this true? Because when/if I get pregnant again, I will be trying to sway pink for my last baby, but of course would be thrilled just to have a 4th to complete my family.

I loved Mirena. No cons for me. I got it when my dd was about 8 weeks. I was nursing so never got an af. When I took it out I got pregnant the first month and had a ds, so it didn't sway pink for me.

I absolutely hated mirena...I could feel it somtimes...like a small pinch if I moved the wrong way (it was probably just in the wrong position) It caused me to be in a haze all the time...I was a major BEOTCH to everyone while i was on it...extremely moody and just not myself...

It took us around 6 months after it was removed to conceive..i didn't ovulate for about 2 months afterwards but I did hear it sways pink

I got the paraguard after my son was born and LOVED it...its non hormonal but it works just as well...you dont have to deal with any of the extra hormones throwing you off or chaning your personality. I think I already have a hormone imbalance so if you have one that is something you need to consider with Mirena or and other BC honestly. I would choose the non-hormonal kind over Mirena any day if I had to make the choice again.

I had it after DS2 and I don't think I will get it again. It was awesome in the sense that you never had to worry about protection, but DH hated it b/c he said he could feel it. Especially before the strings started to soften over time. Even though AF stopped after getting it, I could still feel my ovulation pains so I knew when I was ovulating. I liked that too!

But, I would get moody and had no sex drive at all. Sometimes I could feel it too and it made sex uncomfortable. I'm glad I tried it though and it did work well! My cycle never skipped a beat when it came out too which was something I was worried about.

I had the Mirena after DD2, I never felt it and I didn't even realize it was even in there. I still got a period every month but it was super light. The only con for me was after it was put in I spotted on and off for a month or two. I kept it in for 3 years and had no issues conceiving after.

I had the Paraguard one too and loved it! I had it for 3 years and had no problems. No hormones was my major factor in getting it. I had no problem conceiving after I had it removed either.

Hmm..thats the other problem I had with BC pills is it affect me too much emotionally (by messing with my hormones) so wondering if I shouldn't do more research on Paraguard...Thanks everyone for the replies...keep posting any experiences you have had with either Mirena or Paraguard!
