    Metformin and blue sway

I've been unsuccessfully trying to conceive for the last 13 months. SO recently my doc has prescribed metformin to help with losing weight and ovulation. I know that metformin lowers blood sugar level and also androgen. so should I not take it, or can i take it with some precaution so that it doesnot hamper my blue sway. Please any suggestions are welcome.
Should I increase carbs and protein intake, or do more weight trainings, or just drop metformin?

If you need the metformin, you need the metformin. Without ovulation you won't get a baby.

But here's something most doctors don't tell you:

Metformin depletes your B-vitamin levels and you folic acid levels - which is another reason I believe it sways pink, as it not only lowers bloodsugar, but also lowers maternal condition. By taking B-vitamin complex and possible extra folic acid (follow Atomics guide in her signature!) you should combat that aspect of metformin.

You can keep your blood levels up and still loose weight. Eat healthy, whole grains (very important with metformin - brown bread, pasta, rice, etc) and every 3 hours (3 meals a day and a small snack in between ie nuts, dried fruit, seed bars (9bar and Nakd bars are quite good) and your blood levels will keep steady, which would sway boy. Take prenatal supplements and you will be sure you get the nutrients your body needs, which would sway blue. Eating meat is another one, particularly red meat.

If you got too high androgens and this is preventing you from ovulating you don't want to increase your androgens! If you do that, you won't ever have your baby.

Metformin isn't a magic bullet either - I've taken it for over a year and I only loose weight if I actively try to loose weight on it. I don't loose weight just by eating healthily and taking metformin. I need metformin and a calorie controlled diet. What it does do is give you control over your blood sugar (doesn't necessarily lower it, but it regulates it and alleviates the need for insulin, which is the problem - too much insulin will convert into fat.) It keeps my blood sugar steady and stops me craving sugar and eating bad food.

Metformin, I believe, sways pink because of the two factors I've mention - but in a pink sway you do not combat those sway factors and very few people are in fact aware of what it does to your vitamin levels. I wasn't before I complained about constant fatigue and found out it had completely depleted my B-vitamin levels. So, get hold of some B-vitamin complex and take some prenatal/preconception vitamins.

Don't start pushing your body with weights or trying to increase your testerone levels - it will ruin your chance of a baby completely. If your weight is steady and your diet healthy and high in nutrients, then continue to eat as you do and see what metformin does to your body.

You could stop TTC until you know how your body reacts to the drug - I lost 6lbs the first month of metformin without doing anything, but then haven't lost weight without effort since then.

You should def. take it if you need it!!!

The Metformin is not a magic bullet, people have conceived boys while taking it!

I def. advise that you continue to do weight training while you are on it. The exercise will help your blood sugar and your sway. In fact, you may want to do some cardio as well to assist with your weight loss.

I also think you should try to get your carbs from fresh fruits and vegetables, and drop grains as much as possible. Don't eat more food, but just try to eat more healthfully and also be sure to take a good prenatal vitamin and extra folic acid just like Tiggerian says.

It's best to take your extra weight off before you TTC but after 13 months, you are probably ready to get pregnant as soon as possible! Do what you think is best.

I have been TTC for only 2 attempts so far and aiming up for the 3rd month. I have been prescribed Metformin as well, but I am planning on TTC for 6 months and I haven't by then, I will add the Metformin.

I know its not magic but I know 2 friends on it who are PG with their pink beans so I am little anxious about taking it...

I didn't know about depleting the B vitamins, so I will def add those if I start taking it.

Thank you for posting this Annita! And the great responses Tiggerian and Atomic!

I was on metformin when I conceived DS1. I have PCOS and was struggling to conceive so Dr prescribed it for me and it seemed to work - had no idea about depleting vitamins though luckily I was taking multivitamins for conception anyway.

Point is I wasn't even swaying and still got my blue!

Whew! Great to hear. Thank you for sharing. How was your diet at the time? I am struggling with gaining with the HE diet and the insulin resistance.

PCOS sway blue - so just on metformin you should be OK and I don't think you necessarily need to gain weight - just trick your body into believing you're in a period with loads of food and plenty of nutrients. That should mean you got a higher chance of conceiving blue!
