What about asking others to get vax'd or restricting visits from unvax'd?? what are your thougts about that?? I just dont want to force people to do something but at the same time I need to protect my baby so is it rude to not allow my sister to visit because of this??

Mmm well you can't force people to get vax obviously. I will demand my husband does get his but as far as everyone else goes I will still let them visit as long as they are not ill. Whooping cough is becoming more common but it's hard to catch from just a carrier I think. The person would have to be coughing like crazy I would think to get it. My cousin had it and I spent the whole weekend with her and had to be tested but I did not get it.

My DH has agreed to get it and so has my mum - my MIL didnt say anything when I mentioned it and of course I could never force people to do something they didnt want to do, it is their body after all and it was something I was still a little uncomfortable about but the worry of catching it scared me more then the vax so that made my decision. I guess I worry more about my nephew being completely unvax'd and being a 4 y/o of course he doesnt have the same concerns about hygiene as an adult. My sister wants him to get natural immunity to all these bugs so wouldnt keep her child away if someone had the measles/mumps/whooping cough etc..I know this as she came and saw my boys with her LO when they caught chicken pox off Dh's shingles so he would get it. I guess my LO could get anything from anywhere but I just am extra worried, Im not sure if it's hormone related or the fact this is our last baby and Im just so scared of anything taking that away from us..

Im not going to get the whooping cough one. My baby wont be exposed to too many visitors after he is born, just the same people DD was and she survived so im not too worried about it. I do vax for the other things though just not the flu.

In the uk they give you it after 28 weeks. I'm getting it around 30 weeks.

Having 2 kids already in school it's easy for them to contract it and pass it on to a new baby. Even though they've been vaccinated the strain which is causing problems can be quite resistant to the vaccine anyway but it will offer some protection.

I'd rather not take the risk.

I won't get the normal flu vax but with such devastating issues with newborns and wc I think I'll just get that one x

I've heard of them offering the whopping cough vaccine in the UK but not here so far, tbh I'd need to research it properly before making a decision if it is offered.

When I had ds2 there was all the swine flu scare and I know of two people who had the vaccine while pregnant as recommended by their GP and one had a miscarriage and one has suffered from a problem effective her nervous system ever since. So I'm a bit wary of any vaccines during pregnancy.

I have no problems with all the standard jabs but things like the flu vaccines etc I don't really see as necessary unless you are elderly or have other health issues. x
