3boys - I really know nothing accept from what I've read on other forums of other peoples experiences. I think if bloods are totally fine and super low risk, I do think it helps reduce your risk even though the NT was high. I think it's the combo of the two that makes the doctors go really crazy - and even then still everything can be TOTALLY normal! I'm not sure what your risk would be considering your NT measurement and age - did they even give you that result? Although I've never had a bad NT scan result, at my anatomy scan for DS2 he had choroid plexus cysts on his brain which are a marker for Trisomy 18. I had to wait 2 weeks for a detailed scan, and honestly... probably the worst 2 weeks i've experienced (aside from when they thought DS2 potentially had a brain tumour from accelerated head growth at 6 months and I was waiting on MRI results - see... I know ALL about the worry these babies cause, probably why I am traumatized this pregnancy!) It is such a hard thing to go through and I remember it like it was yesterday. DS2 is a perfectly healthy 20 month old and neither of these scares ended up being an issue. For me what helps is to talk to my DH about worst case scenario, and what are plan would be.. how we'd deal with the situation so that I feel like I have some sort of plan. Once I know how we'd move forward and how our family would deal with the situation at hand it makes things *slightly* easier. (I know this might sound counter-productive, but for me who probably has undiagnosed anxiety issues in general I find it helps me know that whatever happens we can get through it! So worst case scenario doesn't seem so bad and scary after all) I am so sure you will be fine and everything will end up just being another false positive, but we are all here for you to talk and vent! xo

3boys, I am so sorry this is happening to you, I will be waiting for your blood results with baited breath. Makes the whole gender stress seem obsolete doesn't it? A good reality check for us all. Not that gender isn't important, it just is easy for us to get so swept away in it that we forget what's truly important: health.
Now I have two separate girlfriends who both conceived babies after 35 and had their NT and bloods both come back super high risk. But that's the thing, a high result is a high risk, not a diagnosis. They then had the amino (needle to get out some of the fluid in your stomach that surrounds baby) and that was tested (this is a pretty definitive test) and BOTH came back completely normal and went on to have healthy normal children (one had a boy and one girl). I have no other experience with this test but those are real life friends so I tend to trust that over google scary stories.
If there is now a test that allows you to avoid the amino and is reliable, that would be worth every cent, just check how reliable it is and if it can be done earlier or at the same time as amino. I assume if its a blood test it can be done immediately. When my girlfriends had their amnio's there was no alternative and both said it wasn't something you would choose if there was an alternative.
Good luck, I'll be waiting to hear.DS1 2009, DS2 2011.

The harmony test can be done at anytime (so you could do it now), its 99% or higher. As I said before a more detailed scan could also give more info and potentially be a great comfort.
I wish I could remember the name of the harmless collection of water behind the neck... Will update as soon as it comes into my head!!
Grace, congratulations on another healthy little boy. Sorry you didn't hear girl!! I hope that you are alright and the gender disappointment passes soon. I can assure you as soon as he is here you'll think you couldn't imagine anyone else and wouldn't trade him for a million girls! Thinking of you. X

So sorry grace you didn't hear girl. You certainly don't need to apologise to me about worrying about gender. Take some time, let yourself cry for the unfairness of it all. Because it does see unfair (I know I did when I found out I was pregnant with my fourth boy) I hope you feel better soon. And congratulations on a healthy little boy x

I will see what the blood test results are and go from there. I would take the harmony test today if I had a spare £700 lying around. If the bloods are bad, I will probably go for it. It's not like I haven't got to wait anyway I suppose we won't know for sure how things are until the 20 week anomaly scan even if he is trisomy free.

3boys - There's a test here in the US called the MaterniT21, a blood test I believe that can be done at your stage of pregnancy, that checks for trisomies but as an added bonus you can find out gender. Basically, the fetal DNA is taken out of the mother's blood, so non-invasive. Not sure if it's in your area or not, and how much it costs, but 2 friends of a friend had this done (very recently) with all their 12-week bloodwork. Praying for peace for you during this time of uncertainty!
Grace - I am sooooo sorry you didn't hear girl.I would be crushed too. Praying this sweet baby boy steals your heart like no other!
