I just got back from my yearly check up, and my bloodwork shows that my thyroid levels have gone up. Quite a bit, actually. They are above 4 and my dr said that being closer to, or under, 2 is better for ttc.so now I'm getting worried that this is going to make this ttc journey a little longer than I planned for. Last time I had no problem getting pregnant (took 2 months), so I was sort of expecting it to be the same this time and I planned it out so I would be within the months I would prefer to have a baby (march-June)
So I'm feeling a little like I've lost my eager edge already. She said that she doesn't want to give me any medicines now, because technically I'm still in the normal range, but if we seem to be having trouble ttc in a couple of months, she might give me a very low dose to see if it will help. I tried to google natural ways to lower levels, but it includes cutting out healthy foods (spinach, kale) and some suggested adding in things that I know are not exactly healthy (mostly dairy). Does anyone have any experience with this? Or know if this could effect a sway?
Also. Despite taking 5000 IU of vitamin d for the last year, I'm still showing deficient. Which is a bummer, and so now my dr is having me take 10,000 IU. It makes me wonder what other supplements are not working....though my omega-3 level was much better than last yearso maybe it's just the d. I'm more worried about folic acid, because I have a genetic marker that shows that I don't absorb it naturally through food...but that's not one of the levels we checked for, so I have no idea if the supplement is working.

Someone on my other forums suggested more selenium. While I definitely don't want to supplement more, particularly since my numbers are still within the norm...I did some research and found that Brazil nuts are very high in this (high enough that more than 2 a day is unwise). So I might buy a small bag and have one a day for a while and see if that does anything for my fertility.
However, would still like a weigh in on if this is a stupid idea for a sway. I can't imagine that it should be bad, or that at this point it makes a difference...having a baby is more important to me than having a boy, just trying to do what I can. :/

Are you in Canada? because I was given the same " 4 is still within the normal range" crap about my TSH. Trust me, anything above 3 is extremely high...I am on 75mcg for over an year now and only now my levels have come down to 1.8. I started out at 4.8

No, near Chicago, il...but honestly, my dr is very natural minded and I trust her...mine weren't quite that high. One test said 3.something or another, and the other test had a low 4. So I guess there are some variability with the tests, but it's enough to make me concerned. Thanks for sharing, I've never thought I would be grouped into the "thyroid problem group"...especially since I eat so healthy now, but I was reading about the spinach and kale and wondering if its because I'm eating better that I'm having the issue...or if it was the previous pregnancy that put me there....so many questions...I hope that I don't have to worry about it and I get pregnant quick.

Brazil nuts are one of those "said to sway pink" things but honestly I think they're fine.
Folic doesn't work the way that Vit. D does - Vit. D is stored in your fat whereas with folic, you have to eat it regularly because it's water soluble. So it's two totally different mechanisms of use and as long as you're taking the 2000 mcg folic you are getting enough. If you have the genetic marker, you may want to increase and take even more - the 2000 should be enough, but many places recommend 4000.
I'm not a doctor obvioulsy but if your doc is ok with you TTC, the answer to my mind is to just get pg ASAP and so you'd just keep doing what you're doing. Drop EPO and flax, they may aggravate your thyroid.!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

It can help to make CM, but if I rem. right you had a good level of CM anyway and so it's fine for you to drop it.
