It seems like a very strange thing to prescribe to someone who is obviously trying to conceive??!!!!! I understand the cycle regulation, but not when there is a possible adverse affect to a developing baby. I am not sure exactly what is meant by feminising male babies?
Why wouldn't he just prescribe clomid or femara to regulate your cycles? I would get a second opinion before taking anything like that.
Around these forums you tend to see all of the common medication for regulating cycles coming up again and again and I have never seen that name before. But I am not a Doctor, so I would just go and see a different Doctor to make sure. Say that you are ttc and the possible side effects mentioned mean that you would not like to take this medication.

Why is your cycle irregular??? PCOS or some other reason?
My suspicion is that's just a type of BCP. The word "norethisterone" is a fancy term for progesterone and it's what they use in lots of different BCP. Lots of people take BCP before TTC and then stop the month before. I think the warning about getting pregnant while using it is for people who get pg and continue taking it (this happens on occasion when people skip pills or take antibiotics while on the pill)
There is also a use of norethisterone alone to make lighter periods but to me, the way you are describing it, my guess would be that it's a birth control pill!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

I came off bcp about a 9 months ago and my cycles have been messed up ever since they vary between 21 days and 36 i was only on the pill for 3 months but before that my cycles were quite regular give or take a day, ive also been getting pregnancy symptoms every month after what i think is ovulation sore boobs, feeling sick etc my doc says thats a sign of high progesterone but i had a blood test which shows that my progesterone is at the lower level of normal range, she said the norethisterone may help stop the symptoms as im finding it stressfull thinking im pregnant every month then getting bfn's some months i have done a one off attempt at positive opk and me and dh have had a few oops moments well i say a few most months this happens so theres always a chance i could be pregnant! I have to take the norethisterone cycle days 19 to 26 for 2/3 cycles i looked online and people take the pill to delay their periods so they dont have a period whilst on hoilday etc, my doc did say its a progesterone tablet and that if i did get pregnant not to worry!

Rather than go on medication, would it help to track ovulation properly with a fertility monitor or good quality OPKs so you definitely know you have o'd. Then, tell yourself that the symptoms you are feeling each month is just your body's way of gearing up for AF so don't be surprised when they appear. Try to hold off testing until after AF is due.
If you have been trying for 9 months, would it be worth upping the number of attempts you are having rather than just one at positive OPK? There are loads of ladies on here who have gotten girls doing more than one attempt and most of them seem to have upped the attempts because they were not getting pregnant. Are you using anything else (rephresh, sylk etc) which would be lowering your conception chances?
It sucks feeling like you are pregnant and then getting BFNs. I really hope you get a BFP soon!

gotcha.
so do you know is it the first part of yoru cycle that has gotten shorter or the second part?? And were you doing any type of dieting or taking any herbs that could have affected your body's ability to recover from the BCP??
I do want to put your mind at ease that it is not uncommon to have crap cycles for year (s) after coming off the BCP.
My recommendation if you are really ready to get pregnant is to drop the one attempt and do Clomid. Clomid will raise your progesterone and I am actually kinda surprised a doctor would go for norethisterone vs. Clomid...but of course I"m not a doctor and so I'm sure she has her reasons.!!! Hi, yes ive been using the clearblue digital opks on attempt cycles my ovulation day doesnt seem to have changed its been the same since ds1 who is 10 i get a positive opk on cd15 i think i ov on day 17 its after ovulation thats messed up! Yes ive been on a diet ive been veggie for just over a year and le diet for 9 ish months strictly some months and not so others and ive had a break by having more cals etc on the cycls where i wasnt planning on having an attempt as my weight is on the low side i cant stay on the diet for long without a break i asked doc if my weight was ok yesterday and she said its fine! Also yes i did do vitex,sp,chitosan, antihistamines to start with but dropped them i also did rephresh but i dropped that pretty quickly as i tried using that when i was swaying with ds3 but couldnt conceive whilst using it i dropped everything and got pregnant with an oops moment on ov day i was doing ingender style sway back then! Im slightly worried about doing more attempts as my sway is not very strict as i can maybe only spare 2lb weight wise im a 6 uk size! I think i might not take the drug the doc gave me and go back and ask about clomid as i think it makes more sence if im trying to conceive why should i take something that im not ment to take when ttc if she gives me the clomid i,ll do more attempts i dont think she will but worth a try! Im also booked in for a scan to check if there is any other problems going on! Thank-you for your help! X x x
