Colposcopy question for those who went through it

My pap smear came back for high grade abnormal cells. I am 20 weeks. My doctor said they do colpscopies during weeks 28-30. Has anyone else had them before then? Should I wait that long for find another doctor?

    TIA

I didn't get a colposcopy until I was 6 weeks post partum (even though they found severe dysplasia at 6 weeks pregnant). I wouldn't worry too much since pregnancy hormones tend to bring out the bad cells on your cervix (had abnormal paps with all three of my pregnancies). There is a good chance that they will go away shortly after birth. I'm actually surprised they would do a colposcopy during pregnancy, but I guess every place is different.

Thank you so much for your answer. I had given up on replies for this question LOL.

Anyway, I found one doctor that wanted to do it and when I asked if I could wait till after birth he said no. Something about getting an infection that could be instantly fatal??? I never heard of that, so I am going to try to find a doctor who will wait. Not something I wanted to do at 23 weeks pregnant, but I am not willing to risk preterm labor.

You got abnormal pap results this time as well? Are you scared about it? I had my first abnormal in Feb of last year but I wasn't pregnant and my biopsy was normal. THen, the cells went up to high grade with the pregnancy, so I am hoping it goes away after!

Good luck to you! Who needs this stress as well as pregnancy stress!

Yes I got the same "severe dysplasia" this time at my first appointment. They already have me scheduled for another colposcopy at 6 weeks post partum.

I have never heard about an infection from getting a colposcopy after birth. They do check to make sure your cervix is completely closed before doing it. I get sent over directly after my post partum check up.

I'm not worried with this pregnancy at all. I expected it this time. I'm just annoyed that I have to get another colposcopy instead of just a regular pap smear (It takes a bit longer and I always get a cold breeze down below that makes me have to pee).

Good luck I hope you find a doctor that will work with you.

I had a Colpo when I was pregnant with ds2 at 6 weeks! I was terrified that I would miscarry but my dr said they only mess with the outside of the cervix and there was no reason to think I would miscarry... He has been in practice 35+ years so I trusted him... Turns out he was right! Had the colpo done at 6 weeks pregnant had a little cramping and spotting and went on to deliver a healthy baby boy 9 months later good luck
