    Please help - advice needed!!

Hi all. So, I had an ultrasound Monday (I was 16 weeks). They wanted to check on my placenta previa, which is still there unfortunately. Plus, if you didn't see my other post - they couldn't tell the gender since the baby would not show us anything.

Anyway, today I get a phone call from my doctor. I must not have heard the phone, and when I just checked the message, she said she needed me to have more bloodwork done and she wanted to talk to me about the ultrasound. I called back right away to get a machine saying they are closed the next 2 hours for lunch! I left a message, now I sit and wait... and worry.

Has anyone had this happen, or have any ideas of what it could mean?? I am in tears, freaking out that something terrible is wrong with my baby. I likely won't hear back from the dr for hours.

OMG I'm so so so sorry - I don't know why they do that to people. It may be that it's nothing other than that they forgot to tell you something, one time I had a doctor call my neighbor (not even sure how they got the phone number) to get a message to have me call them only to tell me that a test had come back perfectly normal (!) Let me tell you, I was in a panic and they had called my neighbor at 5 pm on Friday and so I stewed for a whole weekend over it!!

I hope you have had happy news by now!!

I hope it was nothing but how awful to sit and worry. If it were anything major, certainly they would have said something while scanning. I hope all is well.

Thank you guys so much. Well, they are concerned about the baby's intestines - they saw something that wasn't quite right. So, they said there is a possibility that I was exposed to a disease that was passed onto the baby. So, they sent me for bloodwork, and I will have to wait and see tomorrow. They tested for Cytomegalovirus and Toxoplasma antibodies. It could end up being nothing she said, but better to get the tests done. It didn't do much to ease my fears though... hoping for good news once the results are in.

I've been a mess all afternoon. I have my elective ultrasound scheduled for tonight to find out the gender, and I don't even feel like going. I don't even care if it's a boy or girl, I just want the baby to be OK.

    Update

Well, I was able to speak to a nurse from my doctor's office (after leaving 3 messages today). All of my test results were negative - so no toxoplasmosis or cytomegalovirus... which is a huge relief.

However, when I asked about having another ultrasound to check the intestines, she said I would have to wait until my next one at Jan 13th. This doesn't seem right to me. I started crying on the phone, was telling her that I cannot wait that long to find out what is wrong with my baby. She basically said I had to wait, there is nothing else we can do right now, but be happy because all tests are negative.

How am I supposed to be happy knowing there is potentially something wrong with the baby's intestines but we have no idea what it could be? When I asked about seeing a specialist, she said since I get my ultrasounds at the hospital, the specialist already looks at my ultrasounds. And all he ordered was the additional bloodwork, not any more ultrasounds. I don't know what to do.

I am sorry that you are in this situation. I am hoping that everything turns out okay and your baby is healthy. I know it is hard to go through this and essentially there is not much you can do but wait. You could either find another obgyn for a second opinion or directly speak to your doctor about your concerns about the wait and see if there is a middle ground in waiting time or if they could give you a better explaination about the wait. Sometimes the wait may be because the growth between 16-20 weeks will be bigger than 16-17 wks and will allow them to visualize the problem better. I would find out who the "specialist" is and see what steps you would need to take to see them (referral or no referral).

I had a two vessel cord with dd2 found at my 20 wk us, and confirmed with a follow up at 21 weeks and seen by a specialist at 23/24 weeks.

It's definitely scary and nerve wracking and it makes it hard to enjoy anything when you have no answers and are constantly worrying. At then end of the day your gd will probably still exist and you may feel guilt and remorse, but it will take a back seat to hoping that your baby is healthy.

    Good luck to you!
