Hi all, I'm new here!
I was looking for some help with a vit B6 issue I'm having.
I was taking 100mg of Vit B6 for a luteal phase problem before I started taking a pre-natal under my gynacologists advice.
I only noticed today, while doing a supplement 'tally', that I'm actually taking 175mg of Vit B6, as I didn't realise there was B6 in my pre-natal.
I have just ovulated, so would weaning to 125mg now be ok?
thank you

Too much Vit B6?

yes that's too much, drop back to 125 now. Under 150 is considered safe but I would prefer to see you at more like 100 or even 50. Over the course of time high doses of B6 can cause neurological problems and while that's generally doses above 200 mg, I just don't think it's worth the risk, and it's believed that women tolerate it less well than men do.
How much is in your prenatal, 75mg?? that is a big dose for a prenatal. I would recommend getting a prenatal with more of a sensible level of B6 in it - just checked my bottle (I still take the same vitamins I took for prenatals) and it had 2 mg in it. You really don't need that much B6, I understand the short LP issue but that can respond to a lower dose too. People think they need the absolute max to fix it but a lot of people do ok just adding in a little bit.
DON'T just stop or drop down below 125 YET, we need to wean off gradually. So for now just eliminate 50 mg of it, then in a few days you can cut back a little bit more till you're at 100 mg range or even lower.!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

That's what I thought, after all the reading I did last night.
Will it affect my progesterone in any way if I bring it down now?
Like will it affect my chances of getting pregnant at all?
Also, I'm on 2400mcg of folic acid, do I need to bring that down too?
I read on a couple of sites that extra folic acid can help.
My multi is a conception/pregnancy/breastfeeding vitamin and does in fact have 75mg of vit b6 (Cenovis multi+ pregnancy and breastfeeding).
I was on a different conception vitamin a few months ago and it was 2 x 25mg of vit b6 (Nature's way conception support).
The one I have taken in previous pregnancies has 750mcg (or at least that's what it says on the net. Blackmores pregnancy & breastfeeding gold).
I'm sorry for all the questions, I don't know very much about vitamins in this sort of situation or anything, just what I read on the internet (which can prove very problematic at times!)
I've only ever needed to take pregnancy vitamins before, I've never needed help with supplements in relation to LP issues or conception issues before, so it's all foreign to me and I don't know what doses I'm supposed to be on or how I'm supposed to wean off them or anything like that.
thank you

I honestly just can't say if it will affect you negatively or not. I do know that a high dose CAN affect you neurologically and so we have to chance it here.
Extra folic is great and unlike B6 seems to be ok in higher doses like that.
If you are taking 75 mg B6 in your prenatal then that is plenty to fix your LP and I'd just continue with that. I don't know if you are swaying or not, but if you are trying for a girl ~I personally~ think B6 can sway blue as do prenatals, but if you need it, you need it.
So anyway, long story short but I would go ahead and drop to 125, take that for a few days and then drop down again to the 75 and hang with that. Hopefully it will fix the LP issue.
I do feel that in many cases short LP can be caused by low fat intake so if you have been limiting fat for weigth control or swaying, I would start off adding in at least one serving of full fat dairy every day, 4 eggs a week, and one serving of salmon a week. This may make you slighlty more likely to conceive a boy so you need to weigh the possibility, if you were trying for a girl.
At the same time, your body is going to be working to fix your short LP so you may not need to go all out in order to fix it.!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

Unfortunately I had to resume the 175mg at 6dpo; my temp bottomed out this morning (dropped by 0.3 degrees celsius) which is my usual indicator that AF is on her way.
We spoke to our local major hospital's pharmacy chief and he said that the 175mg shouldn't affect me much, if at all.
He also said that in a hypothetical, if it were progesterone we were using and the same thing happened we'd be all set to use it to bump up and lengthen LP with immediate effect, so in this instance resuming the b6 should have the same effect as the progesterone cream.
It's the choice I had to make - we have been trying for a year now with absolutely no results at all, neither naturally or medically induced, and if I have to take the 175mg of vit b6, then that's what I'm going to have to do.
In that year my periods started off fine then gradually went down the toilet, but no specialist wants to officially diagnose me with an LP defect.
The b6 is all I have now and I'm just going to have to stick to my 175mg to get pregnant.
I do appreciate all the information you have provided me with and maybe when my body figures itself out I will be able to use it all, but for the time being, to keep my 12 day LP, I'm just going to have to stick with my 175mg.
I wish there weren't such things as luteal phase defects; without them it would make so many women's reproductive lives so much easier...

Get a second opinion on that please. I think it is very likely that the reason the LP was short was just from the drop in B6 and if you continue taking it at a more reasonable level, your LP will be longer again in future months.
I would pull out all the stops to get pregnant as soon as is possible so you can minimize the amount of time you are on it.!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

We got 3 opinions just to be sure.
Our family GP (who has known me for years), our local pharmacist and the major hospital pharmacist.
All of them said that the guidelines err on the side of caution and there is no official proof on any of the possible outcomes.
They were saying that women with HG take it at 300mg doses, sometimes for the whole pregnancy, and had no ill or adverse effects, so if I were to take it at the 175mg dose for less time and gradually wean then I'm all good to go.
I can't afford to waste any of my cycles; I have severely irregular periods and a lifelong history of infertility - I can't just pull out all the stops to fall pregnant, it just doesn't work like that (I wish it did).
Hence the reason I'm on the b6.
If I pull anymore short LP cycles my specialist is forcing me onto IUI and IVF and I can't afford to do that.

Oh I'm sorry, I did not mean to be insensitive there - as you may have guessed most of the people who find this site are here for other reasons and are sometimes doing things that may lower odds of conception.
Glad you got checked out and hoping you get a BFP soon!!!! Questions??Check out the NEW and improved Complete Index !!!

Pulled a 10 day Luteal Phase
Absolutely devastated.
It seems like it's not going to happen for me.
I'm going to try and negotiate a clomid cycle with my obgyn instead of an IUI or an IVF, I hope he agrees.
If I end up on clomid, what should I do with my b6?
Do I bring it down from 175 to 150 or 125?
It's the only way I know to lengthen my LP (clomid) so I don't know what to do with my b6 if I'm on the meds.
Or can I just keep it at 175 and wean it after a possible bfp?
I just feel like stopping all of it cold turkey and going on the pill to try and reset my body
And I understand it being a gender site and all.
We *were* swaying for a particular gender, but we gave it up cuz it wasn't working; I couldn't be bothered continuing to sway when the TTC timetable kept getting longer and longer.
We've just hit our 12 month anniversary and just entered our 12th cycle (that's if we try this cycle. Feeling quite disheartened at the moment).
I asked for help in quite a few TTC groups I'm a part of but no-one really wanted to give me any answers, so I felt like this was the last place I could come.
I hope you don't mind.

No not at all, everyone is welcome here!!!
Clomid is the gold standard for lengthening LP. The official story is not to take B6 while on Clomid but I know many doctors actually prescribe it. If I had my druthers, I'd like to see you on lower B6 of course, 150 or less. I'm not a doctor or pharmacist obviously, I'm just wary of things that seem to have no ill effects, sometimes they can have effects that just seem to take a super long time to develop and I lost a family member to a neurological disease who had taken upper limit doses of B6 for carpal tunnel syndrome, so it makes me generally nervous.
Mulling it over - what about a general B complex - so you would replace part of the B6 you are taking with a B complex containing some other B vitamins along with the B6 You may be lacking in some conutrient to the B6. Would also recommend 2 servings of full fat dairy, 2 eggs a day, and salmon 2x a week. This has helped some other people restore their LP.!!!
