Sugar call the billing department. They will look you up and look up your insurance. If your insurance is out of network then the cost per test will be $200. Call the billing department they are very helpful and easy to work with.

You won't be charged extra for the "plus" portion and your Dr. has to check a box NOT to have the extra micro-deletions performed.

Yes, you're right. The extra chromosomes (besides 13, 18, and 21) are included in the test. They're just not reported in the box where it says 'negative.' Instead it says in small print below that the other chomosomes will be reported as an 'additional finding.' So the way it appears on the results form is that 13, 18 and 21 are in the largest font, gender is in a smaller font, and the micro-deletions and other chromosomes are in an even smaller font (where it basically says that nothing will be noted about them unless an abnormality is found). It's a little odd, possibly misleading if you don't read carefully, but they are there.

And my insurance did cover, and is in network, but they pay only $690 per test, leaving me with a $2,100 balance for each one. I def. need to call Sequenom and see if this can be negotiated down.

Had to open up my 'perninatologist packet' - envelope of paperwork that's passed between my ob and my peri - to look at the test results. Sooo stressful: that packet is the main trigger for *all* my pregnancy-related anxiety (have never looked in there before).

Oh my... yikes Sugar that bill is not good. I would hope that they will do something for you. As long as the $4200 isn't due to a deductible I think they will work with you. Why did you have to have two tests?

Two different pregancies. One was positive for a trisomy (T 18); test was accurate and confirmed via karyotype done by pathology. The second was for my current pg.

Oh sorry to hear about that Sugar. Glad your current PG is going well! Please let us know if Sequenom does anything to credit the charges. It was my understanding you shouldn't have to pay more than $200 a test unless your insurance is in-network and you have a high deductible so it would be good to know what they do for you.
