Hi Dr Braverman.
Can you please explain the risk of internal bleeding following egg retrieval.
How does a doctor avoiding hitting a blood vessel during egg retrieval?
What happens if they do hit a blood vessel?

There are 2 reasons that you would have bleeding. !. you have many follicles so there are many punctures (still not a common outcome) 2. one of the major vessels is compromised during the procedure but in experienced hands and sonogram guidance this is very rare. At our center we have never had to operate on anyone due to internal bleeding.

Thank you. So we should ask to make sure egg retrieval is done with sonogram guidance? Seems like it should be standard but perhaps not.
Can you see it on the sonogram if that happens during the procedure?
