I have a Hanna, and I am just wondering if anyone knows--do I get the 10.01 buffer solution? It came with 7.01 and 4.01 and I know I don't want my pH low, so I am assuming I need the 10.01 to calibrate it? Am I right?

Which Hanna do you have? Mine is the Hanna 98103 and it has the ability to calibrate at 7.01 and then the other calibration is 4.01 or 10.01... they are on the same screw for calibrating so you really only need one of them. I bought both 4.01 and 10.01 buffer solution but really think I only need one of them. I did make the mistake though of not buying enough 7.01... my package said it came with some 7.01 and I assumed that would be enough. I was wrong. I'll probably have to order more and pay the extra s&h. Since you're shooting for higher pH's, I would pick the 10.01 buffer solution over the 4.01 (jmo).

I think that's the one I have (it's red) and it came with some 4.01 solution. But no 10.01. I am guessing since I want my pH high, I will need the 10.01 solution, right?

I plan to buy a hanna ph tester and wondered if i must buy the hanna brand buffer solutions. Can I buy the cheaper brands on amazon, do they work as well?

I have the red one. It seems to work great. I had to buy the buffer solution, etc. I got it all on Amazon, and it was pretty reasonably priced.

Why would you need the 10.01? We only need the solution to make sure the meter is working good reading the right pH number. That is why we use to reset it ,the low 4.01 and the high 7.01. that is what I have and I never read anywhere we need the 10.01.
I mean our pH is not going to be higher just because we use the 10 and not the 7.

I think it needs the 10.01 to be able to read pH past 7.01, right? And since we want our pH high, I thought we were supposed to calibrate to the 10.01 setting. ?

Oh i see what you think! No it will read the pH higher then 7.01! (I did try it lot's of times) We only need 1 low pH solution and 1 higher to make sure the meter is working right . You can try it with something high pH and see it works.
But of course if you feel better with the 10 just order one!
